“Mornin’, miss me already?” His sexy voice flowed through the vehicle’s sound system.
“Oh yeah, but that’s not why I’m calling.”
“Okay, what’s going on.” His voice changed to business.
“Peterson just asked me if you were BCA.”
“Shit. I knew it couldn’t stay quiet much longer. Ryan?”
“I don’t think so. Adam was processed last night. Either he or his lawyer could have said something.”
“Well. I guess there’s no time like the present to schedule interviews. Thanks for the heads up.”
It was a quiet morning. Amy drove the usual route looking for traffic violations until a call came in. It was almost lunch when Ryan called.
“I got bad news and more bad news. Which do you want first?”
“Decisions, decisions. Give me the bad news.” Her hand went to her neck but came up empty. Shit, she must have left her necklace at Trey’s last night.
“The station is buzzing about Trey being a BCA agent. No one knows for sure, but there’s speculation about why he’s around.”
“You’re too slow. Peterson dropped that detail on me a couple hours ago. What’s the other bad news?”
“You heard they found the car that hit Gus and most likely took a swing at your brother?”
“Yeah.”
“Well, it was wiped clean. Except they found one print under the driver's seat.”
“That’s good. Wait. Only one. So, our guy is sloppy or…”
“Yeah, setup. Who’s that thorough to wipe down every knob, lever, and mirror but misses the one spot that would put you in the driver's seat?”
“Since this is bad news, I have to ask, who’s print was it?”
He exhaled. “Adam, the delivery driver.”
“Well, doesn’t that tie this up in a nice, neat bow.” Sounds like Tommy’s case.
“I gotta go. I’ll touch base with you later. Stay safe.”
“You, too.” She ended the call.
She turned the car around and headed to the gym. She needed to talk to Trey. Tommy, too. Who knows how the Gardiners work better than someone who was burned by them?
The vibes she got from Adam last night were that his glory days ended five years ago and, while he likes his weed, he wasn’t a killer. Trey knew him better.
Ten minutes later, she walked into the gym. Tommy and Trey were coming out of the back office.
“Just the guys I want to see. We need to talk.”
Trey couldn’t miss the determination in Amy’s eyes. She was on a fact-finding mission and no way she’d give up before she got answers.
They moved back into the office and closed the door.
She turned to him. “Is Adam capable of murder?”
He rubbed the back of his neck. “I wouldn’t have said so. The guy was all about himself, but as for a premeditated act of murder, no.”
