They sat that way for a while, watching the dancing flames. Well, Levi was watching the flames and Saul was watching the flickering glow on his skin.
“Daddy, what do you want?”
“At the risk of sounding unoriginal, I just want you.”
“Uh-uh. You made me tell you all sorts of things, so now it’s your turn. I want to make my Daddy happy.”
“I think I’m a lot more boring than you. I work a lot, though I’ll cut back to make more time for you. I like to read. I’m not very adventuresome.”
“You say that, and yet you founded a kinky dating service.”
Saul shrugged. “That’s like the boring version of actually doing those things.”
“But you have done them, right? I mean, the ones you’re interested in?”
“Yeah. I trained with an experienced Dom and I’ve been in several kinky relationships, plus some more casual stuff at events and parties. I was kind of taking a break for a while, though.”
“Why?”
Saul drew in a breath. He knew he had to have this conversation, so he might as well get it over with. At least here, in front of the fire with a snuggling boy in his lap was about as good a setting as he could ask for.
“I actually wasn’t planning on getting involved with anyone until I was done transitioning,” he finally admitted.
Levi gave him a funny look. “What does done transitioning mean? Like, is there an end point?”
“Maybe. In my head, I have this timeline. But I was mostly thinking that I wanted to feel more comfortable with myself. I was going to wait until I’d been on T for a couple of years.”
“How long has it been?”
“A year.”
Levi dragged Saul’s hand up to his mouth and kissed it. “That’s not important to me.”
“I know you think that now, but… well, I don’t know how much you know about trans guys. I may not be what you’re looking for.”
There. It was out.
Levi rolled his eyes. “Silly Daddy. You’re my perfect Daddy, remember?”
“I just… Do you actually know what you’re getting into? I mean, I heard you tell someone that you were completely gay.”
“Oh, I’m definitely completely gay, which is kind of the point. I mean, OK, so I’m sure I don’t know everything. But I have this friend, Quinn, who transitioned when I was in college. I went with him to get his first shot of T and took care of him when he got out of the hospital for top surgery. We never dated or anything, but, I mean, I talked through a lot of his concerns with him at the time.”
“Not any more? Are you still friends?”
“He’s kind of over it, I guess. Like, he’s married with an awesome kid and the trans stuff doesn’t seem to be as important in his life. But we’re still friends. I’ve even told him about you.”
“Because I’m trans?”
“Because I’ve had a crush on you for a year.” Levi gave him a goofy grin.
Saul let a little bit of the tension leave his body. This conversation was going far better than he’d expected.
“Oh, and I’ve seen about a million before and after surgery pictures online,” Levi piped up. “From when I was researching things with Quinn. Though I imagine surgical techniques have advanced since then.”
“I haven’t had any surgeries.” Better to get that out there, too.
“I know.” Levi still looked just as relaxed, just as happy and confident as he had before.
