“Girl… you have no idea.”
“It’s that bad?”
I nodded.
“The nigga barely wanted me to come. Hell, he damn near canceled the whole trip.”
Her brows shot up.
“The fuck you mean he ain’t want you coming?”
I sighed.
“Girl… It’s a long-ass story.”
“Long-ass story my ass.” She waved me off. “Tell that man you need to get out the damn house.”
“I tried.” I leaned across the table and lowered my voice. “But he found out I’m pregnant.”
Drayla froze, and for a split second, she just blinked at me.
“Bitch!”
Her voice echoed through the food court, making a few people turn their heads.
“You lying!”
I couldn’t help but laugh.
“No.”
She slapped the table so hard I jumped.
“Bitch!” She stood and threw her arms around me. “I’m finna be a whole fucking godmother!”
“Looks like it.”
She pulled back, both hands on my shoulders, shaking me a little.
“Oh, nawl. We gotta go shopping now.”
I laughed.
“I cannot deal with you.”
“What?” she asked with a shrug. “I’m serious. Bitch, I can’t have kids.” Her smile softened enough to tug at my heart. “But knowing you can? That makes me happy as hell. Now, I finally got somebody to spoil.”
My smile faded into something quieter. I reached over and squeezed her hand.
“You gon’ spoil this baby rotten.”
“Damn right I am.”
I laughed, but as I rested my hand against my stomach, reality settled over me again. I was having a baby. Even after everything life had thrown my way, I was finally getting another chance to be a mother.
We finished talking, then got up from the table to go get the things we needed for the trip. I wanted to hurry up and be gone before Kyrie changed his mind at the last minute.
I was still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I was about to be somebody’s father. Me. Kyrie Maddox. I never imagined I’d bring a kid into this world. Hell, I wasn’t even sure I was father material, but if I was going to figure this shit out with anybody, I was glad it was Sianni. Out of all the women I could’ve ended up with, God gave me the one woman I knew would love our baby with everything she had. She was patient and caring, with one of the biggest hearts I’d ever come across. I never had to question whether she’d be a good mother because that shit came to her naturally.
