“Kyrie, what am I supposed to do?” I asked, throwing my hands up. “She already booked the rooms. Everything’s paid for.”

I prayed that maybe if he heard that, he would change his mind, but I didn’t know. When Kyrie stood on something, he stayed on it.

“That’s wassup.” He shrugged. “Find out how much she spent, and I’ll pay her back.”

“Kyrie!” I snapped, my voice bouncing off the walls. Frustration burned behind my eyes, and I fought like hell to keep the tears from falling.

A slow smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth.

“You love screaming my name, don’t you?”

I shot him a look. This man really thought everything was a damn joke.

“Kyrie,” I said again, forcing my voice to steady. “Can you be serious for one second? You already told me I could go as long as I took my security, and that’s exactly what I’m doing. Just let me go this time. I promise I’ll be careful.”

The smile slipped from his face, and he dragged his hand across his beard before biting his bottom lip, his eyes fixed on me as he weighed my words. The silence stretched between us, twisting my stomach. Finally, he nodded.

“Aight… you can go.”

Relief rushed through me before he held up his finger.

“But there is one condition.”

“And what’s that?” I asked, lifting a brow.

Lord knows what was about to come out of this man’s mouth.

“You call me and keep me updated on everything. I don’t care if it’s to get breakfast. You change locations, call me. If another nigga even breathes too hard around you, I wanna know. Don’t have me finding out where my wife is from nobody else.”

A smile spread across my face.

“That’s it?”

“Don’t sound so surprised.”

“I can do that.”

He stepped over, cupped my face, and pressed his lips against mine. I smiled into the kiss before wrapping my arms around his waist for a second.

“Okay,” I said once we pulled apart. “I’m finna go meet Drayla. We gotta go shopping for this trip.”

“Alright, be careful.”

“I will.”

I grabbed my purse and keys before letting myself out the front door. After locking it behind me, I headed toward the black SUV waiting in the driveway.

As much as I hated riding around with a driver, I already knew arguing with Kyrie about that would’ve been another battle I wasn’t winning. The driver stepped out long enough to open my door. Once I got settled, he closed it, climbed back behind the wheel, and pulled away from the house, heading toward the mall where Drayla was waiting for me.

By the time I made it to the mall, Drayla was already sitting in the food court with her eyes glued to her phone.

“Oh, Drayla, my love,” I called as I walked over.

She looked up, a grin spreading across her face.

“Hey, boo. ’Bout damn time. I was finna come over there and tell Kyrie to unhand yo’ ass.” She laughed.

I sat in one of the chairs across from her and rolled my eyes.
