I grabbed my phone off the couch and called Marvin. By the third ring, his ass finally answered.

“Aye, man, wassup? Everything straight?”

A grin spread across my face as I rubbed my beard.

“Bruh… Sianni pregnant.”

“The fuck?” he yelled. “Nigga, didn’t y’all just fucking get together?”

“Yeah, but I already knew this shit was gon’ happen.” I chuckled, dragging my hand through my beard again. “I wasn’t wearing any protection.”

Truth was, every time I got close to my wife, all my damn self-control disappeared. I’d tell myself I was gon’ chill, that I needed to pull out, but once I was inside her, that shit got harder than I wanted to admit. The way she looked at me, touched me, and said my name had my mind completely fucked up. As soon as I got wrapped up in her, pulling away was damn near impossible. Hell, I couldn’t even act surprised she ended up pregnant.

“Well, congratulations, cuz.”

“Appreciate it.” My smile slowly faded as my thoughts drifted elsewhere. You get in touch with Zeek?”

Now that I knew Sianni was carrying my baby, everything changed. I wasn’t just protecting my wife anymore. I was protecting my child, too, and that meant Jamal couldn’t keep walking around like shit was sweet. One wrong move from that nigga, and I’d never forgive myself.

“Yeah,” Marvin replied. “I talked to him.”

“And?”

“I’m picking him up from the airport.”

“Bet. Slide through and grab me.”

There was a brief pause.

“Bruh, you really think that’s a good idea?”

“Nawl.” I rubbed my beard again, my jaw tightening. “But I don’t give a fuck anymore. The nigga shot me. Now it’s time for his ass to get what the fuck is coming to him.”

Jamal should’ve counted his blessings after I beat his ass for disrespecting my woman. Instead, he pulled a gun and put a bullet in me. Nawl, he made his choice that day.

Now, I was gon’ make mine.

“Aight, bruh. I’ll slide by then,” Marvin said.

“Aight.”

There was a minute before he spoke again.

“Yeah… but where Sianni at?”

“She’s out shopping. She and Drayla are still supposed to be going on their lil’ girls’ trip.” I shrugged, rubbing a hand over my beard.

“Yo’ ass ain’t wanna let her go.”

I let out a low laugh.

“Yeah, and she made a nigga feel guilty.”

“Damn.”

“Yeah.”

I leaned back against the couch and glanced toward the front door, like she was about to walk through it at any second. Truth be told, I was already missing her ass, and she hadn’t even left for the damn trip yet. That shit ain’t make no sense.
