“Sure. Coffee would be great. Just point me in the direction of the mugs.”

She reached into a cabinet and handed him one.

“Sutton is just drying her hair.” He poured a cup of coffee. “Breakfast smells delicious. How can I help?”

“You can take the muffins out of the oven,” Shelley said. “The mitts are in the drawer next to Steve.”

He set down his coffee mug, snagged mitts, and opened the oven. The heavenly scent of freshly baked muffins wafted out as he withdrew two trays. “Blueberry and chocolate chip? My favorites. You’ve been busy this morning.”

Steve peered out the window and said, “Here comes Archer. Flynn, whatever happens, just go with it.”

“Okay.” He looked questioningly at Shelley, who wore a coy smile.

The kitchen door opened, and there was no mistaking Archer Steele, with his military-short dark hair and trim beard, massive biceps, barrel chest, and his father’s sharp jawline. “Hey, Mom. Dad.”

“What are you doing here, honey? You’re not supposed to see Indi before the wedding,” Shelley said.

He scoffed. “We’re done with that. I’ve had enough time without her. Where’s my girl?” He turned serious eyes on Flynn. “Who are you?”

Flynn opened his mouth to answer, but Steve cut him off. “Archer, this is Miles. Miles Long, a friend of your grandmother’s from bingo. He’s coming to the wedding with her.”

Oh shit. Let the pranks begin. “How’s it going, man?” Flynn extended his hand.

Archer’s face contorted into a mask of rage. “Are you fucking kidding me?”

“Archer, watch your language in front of our guest,” Shelley chided.

“Mom, you’re okay with this?” Archer fumed.

“Honey, who am I to tell my mother who she can spend her time with?” Shelley played it off like a pro. “She’s got needs like everyone else.”

“Needs? She’s…” Archer gritted his teeth, his chest puffing out like a silverback gorilla as he closed the distance between him and Flynn, glowering. “What are you, a stripper?”

“I prefer exotic entertainer.”

“And I’d prefer if you got the hell out of this house and stayed the fuck away from my grandmother. How old are you, anyway?”

“Thirty-four.” Flynn flicked his hair out of his eyes, cocking an arrogant grin, and ran his hands down his abs. “A damn hard thirty-four if you ask me.”

Archer’s eyes narrowed, his jaw grinding like he was going to spit nails. “Do you get off preying on old ladies? You know how pathetic that is?”

“Did you just call my woman old?” Flynn threw his shoulders back, puffing out his chest, too. “Watch yourself, dude.”

“She’s my grandmother,” Archer seethed.

“I’d say that makes you a lucky guy. Lenore is quite a woman. Very loving.”

Archer gritted his teeth. “You—”

Shelley shoved a plate of waffles between them. “Here you go, Miles. You need to keep your calorie count up to keep up with my mother.”

“Don’t forget the protein.” Steve put eggs on Flynn’s plate and winked.

Archer bit out, “Dad, what the hell are you doing?”

Leni came into the kitchen. “Hey, Archer. I see you met Romeo.”

“You’re cool with this shit, too?” Archer growled.
