“I’ve shocked you. How about we move on? Daddy shouldn’t have told you that. I’m sorry.”

“Why did you tell me?” Margery wondered.

“Because you deserve to know. I’m not a good man, but I will treat you right. You know that. But I will keep some things from you. What I just told you didn’t give away anything. A lot of people know that information.”

She felt like when he said a lot of people it was those in his circle. People who killed on a regular basis. Margery figured that the average person didn’t know. Why would they?

“But don’t worry, I’m not going to tell you anything else. I don’t want to taint you.”

How was she supposed to respond to that? If she thought that was bad, he could probably tell her worse. “Thanks?”

“Just don’t tell anyone what I told you.”

Her eyes went wide. “Will they kill me?”

“No one is going to kill you or torture you. Get that into your head. I promise you nothing like that will happen.”

How could he say that? There was no doubt he had enemies. How could he promise to keep her safe when he didn’t know?

“Let’s get away from this subject. Just know, I am always going to keep you safe.”

She nodded and sat on the bed. How was she going to survive this?

CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX

MARGERY

Several days had passed since Margery had had corner time. Ethan had been in and out of the room each day. He always made sure he was there for meal times at least. Sometimes, he was there until she fell asleep at night, and sometimes, he left right after he fed her.

Yeah, he fed her every single meal. She tried to argue with him, but he told her no matter what, he was going to feed her. That she could be a good girl and sit on the bed or chair, or she could be a naughty girl and sit in a highchair.

That quieted her down. While the thought of sitting in a highchair intrigued her, she didn’t want to do it.

Margery was still struggling if she was going to try and run away. Her head was full of working out what to call him, she was in and out of calling him Daddy. She had almost said it out loud a couple of times, but she had stopped herself. She didn’t need to get used to calling him that.

But he had been so nice to her. He knew Margery was still wary about accepting things. He had been nice andallowed her to sleep on her own for who knew how long. He told her it would be a couple of weeks, but she didn’t know how much time had passed.

It was sweet of him to think of her like that. It showed that he really cared for her. Which only proved to be a dilemma for her. He kept doing and saying things that made it so much harder to leave and deny wanting him.

He was a criminal and did illegal things. He had killed for her and had stalked her.

But knowing those things turned her on even more. He did those things to protect her. To keep her safe. She loved Ethan, and her love for him was only deepening with every passing minute.

It scared her beyond belief.

Was it wrong for her to love him? There was a part of her that thought it was wrong. He had put her through things he probably shouldn’t have.

Margery looked over at Jonesy, who was sitting on the bed.

“I don’t know what to do. Is it wrong? Should I leave and move on?”

She didn’t even know if she would be allowed to leave, but maybe she could escape after a couple of weeks when he trusted her a little more.

Don’t think. Just go with your gut and feelings,Jonesy replied.

“But I can’t do that. He’s a bad person who has done bad things. I know he’s killed at least two people, and he didn’t even flinch for one of them. Didn’t even seem bothered by it. That tells me he’s done it so many times before. And thenyesterday, he told me that it could take weeks or days, depending on how active the person was, for their arms to tear from their body.”

Marjory still couldn’t wrap her brain around that. She knew everything he said was true and accurate. But the way he calmly talked about it, like it didn’t bother him at all, was what threw her off.
