“Showtime,” I whispered, staring at myself in the mirror. I hoped this night would go well, beginning with the dress. Apparently, Liam’s assistant knew some famous designer and drove all the way to Hollywood to fetch the ensembles, delivering them this afternoon.

At this point, I just prayed one of them would fit.

I walked to the massive closet / dressing room, flipping on the light. Liam’s dress shirts, lined up neatly in rainbow order, occupied the top row; the bottom bar held his dress pants, ranging from light to dark. An entire wall was devoted to shoe cubbies and the other side stood completely empty, save for three garment bags and three shoe boxes, all scrawled with my name.

Inhaling a deep breath, I walked into the closet and unzipped bag number one, revealing a sleek black strapless mermaid gown. A solid start.

I moved down to bag number two. Inside was a navy blue, one-shouldered dress with a high slit in the front. Could be good.

Now only dress number three was left. My hands trembled slightly as I lowered the zipper on the last bag. A satin, emerald green sleeveless dress, with a low V and a diamond waistband glittered at me under the closet lights. This dress also held promise—and could bring out my eyes.

Nothing left to do but try them all on.

I dropped my towel, taking the black mermaid gown off the hanger and shimmying into it. Turning side to side, I examined myself from all angles. Nice, but strapless wasn’t my favorite. I snapped a quick photo on my phone, then stepped out of option one and tried on option two, the navy dress. I liked the one-shoulder, but the slit was a little bit high. Still, I clicked a photo and sent it to Everly, then moved on to dress number three.

Easing the dress off the hanger, I stepped carefully into it, working the zipper up my back. When I turned around for the big reveal, my breath caught in my throat.

This dress was the one. The emerald color played off the green in my eyes, the dip of the V hit my cleavage in just the right spot, and the diamond waistband highlighted my figure. I freaking loved this dress.

I smiled for the camera, clicking several pictures from multiple angles, and sent them all to Everly.

Five seconds later, I had a text:

Everly: Perfection. You look gorge.

Macy: Thanks.

Everly: Truly. Enjoy yourself tonight. You deserve this. Xoxo

I teared up as I read her text, my chest squeezing hard; my sister appreciated me after all.

Closing my eyes, I inhaled a deep, cleansing breath and focused on the night ahead of me. I wanted—needed—to wow Liam’s friends and clients.

At least I had the perfect dress.

I quickly searched through the other bag Liam’s assistant dropped off, which was full of various undergarments, hair accessories, and a bunch of random stuff only A-listers knew what to do with. I settled on a pair of micro V-string panties, no bra, and a diamond-encrusted hair clip.

I blow dried my hair, then used the curling iron to create big, loose waves, pulling a chunk up to the side and fastening it with the clip. Swiping on highlighter, then eyeshadow, I created a subtle smoky eye, carefully coating my lashes with mascara. The final touch was nude lip gloss and a pair of strappy nude stilettos, and I was ready for the gala.

“Hello there, gorgeous.” Liam’s deep voice vibrated in my ear, his breath warm on my skin, somehow soothing my nerves and exciting me at the same time.

I spun to face him, my heart pounding in my chest. “I barely recognized you,” I said, taking in the clean lines of his jet-black tux, his perfectly groomed scruff. And he smelled even more masculine and divine than ever, like sandalwood with a hint of sexy.

His face broke into a boyish grin, complete with dimple, and I relaxed a bit; this was the Liam I was used to.

“I hope that’s not a bad thing,” he said, his hand on my waist. “Did you like the dresses?”

“Mm-hmm,” I said, barely able to form words with his body so close to mine.

“I have something for you.”

“More?”

He reached into his jacket pocket, pulling out a rectangular blue case and handing it to me. I took it, a shiver of desire dancing through me when our fingers brushed.

I opened the box. “Liam...” I breathed, staring down at the diamond and platinum necklace.

“Here, I’ll put it on.” He carefully lifted the chain from the box, fastening it around my neck, the jewelry cool and heavy against my sun-kissed skin.
