“You must have been really tired.” Liam definitely smirked at me that time and my face flamed.

“I worked a lot last week.”

“Yeah, I’m sure.” His lips quirked up at the edges and a vision of what happened between us last night flitted through my brain, causing my lower body to heat right up.

“You working at the store this afternoon?” I asked, trying to sound casual.

He nodded. “Yep.”

“Too bad, we were gonna watch Netflix all afternoon and you could have totally joined us,” Everly said, plumping her bottom lip out in a pout.

“I’ll have to take a raincheck,” Liam said, casting his eyes over at me.

“You probably don’t like rom-coms anyway,” Everly said, unfazed by the blue pools of Liam’s eyes, the hot feel of his stare.

“Untrue,” he said, still not breaking eye contact with me. “I actually really enjoyedPretty Woman.AndSweet Home Alabamais one of my all-time favorites.”

“Really?” Everly and I both asked in unison, although Everly’s pitch was a lot higher than mine.

“Yep,” Liam said, nodding. “I have three older sisters. You think I ever got to pick the movie?”

I laughed.Damn it.Liam was already chipping away at my resolve.

“The store’s only open noon to five today. When’s this movie marathon starting?” he asked, glancing over at Everly.

She smoothed her dark hair, batting her eyelashes at him. “We could wait for you. Do you want to watch a classic? Or something new?”

“Ladies’ choice,” he said.

Just the deep rumble of his voice sent desire flaming through me.

Not good at all.

“You sure?” I asked, turning to look at him. “We wouldn’t want to keep you from something more important.”

“It’s fine. Pops and Gigi are trying to take it easy, Quinn’s working, and Ryder’s busy with Charlie. So it’s me at the store, then I’m on my own.”

“Perfect. We’d love to have you!” Everly said, clapping her hands in delight.

Really? Why was my sister the freaking welcoming committee all of a sudden?

“Great,” Liam said, standing. “Thanks for the creamer—” he nodded at Everly, then glanced over at me. “See you tonight. I’ll bring the popcorn.” He winked, then strode to the door, giving me zero chance to argue.

“Bye, Liam! See you later!” Everly waved at him and then he was gone.

I sighed, sinking back into my chair.

“What’s that all about?” Everly shot me a suspicious look. “Did he call you or something? What was he talking about hearing from you?”

“Nothing. He just gave me his number at the Rowdy, that’s all. After he helped me with my car stuff.” I tried to sound casual, brushing it off.

“You’re crazy for not calling him. That man is gorgeous. And why are you so bent out of shape about spending time with him?”

“I’m not,” I said, sipping my coffee and avoiding eye contact with my sister. If we connected, she might get suspicious, and the last thing I needed was a bunch of questions about Liam. Especially when my body was on fire from Liam’s close proximity.

“Hmph,” she said, rubbing her chin. “You seemed kind of—I don’t know—cold to him. Did he piss you off or something?”

Quite the opposite,I thought. “No. I just don’t think we should distract him from his family is all.”
