“No, not yet,” I answer. Still waiting for him to discuss the meeting.

“Perfect!” He stands, fixes his coat and clears his throat. He holds his hand out, I take it, and he tugs me up to stand in front of him. “Lucy, will you have dinner with me tonight?”

It’s that moment, the one where you never think you’ll experience yourself, one you believe to be just out of your reach. Happiness fills me as I look into Henry’s eyes.

“Lucy?” he asks again, “will you have dinner with me tonight?”

“Yes! I’d love to, but Henry, what happened at the meeting with Mark? With Viewmont Productions’ request?” I can’t let this go any further. I need to hear it from him.

As much as I want this dinner to be the first of many dates for us, it could also just be a parting gift to let me know he’s decided to follow through with the production company’s plans. If that is the case, I’d rather hear it in the coffee shop than at a dinner with him that feels like a date.

“Oh, that, I told him to let them know they could fuck off,” he answers with a shrug.

“What? What about Viewmont Productions?” I ask.

“Oh, well, I appreciate the role they played in all this to begin with, but I’m not letting them interfere any further.” He slips his arms around my waist and pulls me toward him,but not close enough.

“Interfere in what…” I ask slyly.

“Well for starters, I am finally able to ask you on aproper date. And you’ve accepted, so I believe that makes us…a thing?”

I know I’m smiling like an idiot. “A thing you say. And what does this thing involve…exactly?” I tease him.

“Well, dinner tonight and then all the other perks that come with us being together,” Henry says, looking every bit the cool and collected man he is.

“I look forward to these perks.”

After the perks I received Monday night, I can’t wait to experience the full package.

Henry pulls my face to his and kisses me more passionately than I would assume is acceptable in public. “There’s a perk.”

We walk hand in hand to the restaurant. Of course Henry requests a booth so we can sit next to each other. The meal is good, but the company is delicious.

I ask if there will be repercussions with the production company if they are upset about him refusing their marketing proposal.

“Mark and I looked into it. They can’t infringe on my personal life that much. They are welcome to suggest anything they’d like, but they have no power to enforce it. There won’t be any repercussions. Let that young actor do it if he’s single and interested.”

The way he shrugs it off makes me giddy as a tingling rush moves throughout my body. I almost jump with happiness. Then it hits me, “So is all of this, the coffee shop text, taking me out to dinner. Is this just your way of directing the romance in your own life?”

He laughs at me. “Lucy, I don’t think anything thathas occurred in the last week is things I would have planned for us.” That’s a fair point. “Yet, it was enough to make an interesting movie. Plenty of plot twists.” He winks. “While I am utilizing my expertise in the subject, real life provides too many variables, but I will try to maintain great levels of romance while we tackle anything else that comes at us.”

The honesty in his tone melts my heart. “Well, John is one less thing you’ll have to deal with,” I reassure him.

“At least not until we visit your family and friends back in the States.” He has a serious look on his face. I hadn’t considered him coming to the States. “I need to meet your mom and your feisty friend, Ellie.”

“Of course. We can plan for a trip over the summer. Ellie works for a baseball team. We can watch her in her element.”

“I look forward to it,” he says with his arm around me.

The check comes, and we make our way out of the restaurant. We’ve been sharing a bed for daysand doing more than sleeping. I shouldn’t be nervous to ask, but I keep my eyes down. “Would you like to stay at my place tonight?”

“Thank you for the offer, but I had other plans.” I look up at him, my fingers fidgeting at my side while I wait for him to continue. “If you’re up for a late-night road trip, I thought we could avoid the traffic and head back to the house this evening…together.”

“Yes, I’d love that. I just need to grab a couple things from my place.” My heart begins to hum as I try to keep my face somewhat collected.

“The boys’ townhouse is on our way. We can stop there, grab my bags, and take my car back to your place before we leave.”

“Sounds like a plan,” I say following his lead, so thrilled to be heading back to his place tonight together.
