HENRY

It’s nearly2:00 a.m. when we pull into the driveway of my home. I look over at my beautiful passenger as I pull our joined hands up to my lips. I gently let my lips brush against her knuckles and imagine placing such kisses over every inch of her body. The moonlight shines through the windows and lights up her sleepy face.

We will have days with the house to ourselves before everyone returns. No need to rush things tonight.

I want her well-rested for what I have planned for us.

“Why don’t you get the door and head in.” I hand her the house key. “I’ll grab the bags and be right behind you.”

We don’t linger for long, heading directly up the stairs where Lucy stops at the first door. “Now that this room is vacant, will I be staying here?”

“Absolutely not. Keep moving.” I direct her toward my room.

She does as she’s told but continues to tease me. “Areyou sure you want to move that fast? We’ve just been on our first date tonight.”

“You and I both know we are far beyond that.” I smile as she puts her bags down and stands in front of the dresser. The memories of the last time she stood in front of that dresser come flooding back into my mind.I’m trying to be a gentleman and allow her rest before I ravage her tomorrow. “Unless you forgot, which I can assure you, I’m more than ready to refresh your memory.”

Her eyes grow wide at my offer but then close tightly as she fights off a yawn. It’s adorable. Gone is the need to devour her, well not gone, but pushed aside for now,and all I want is to get her into those cute pajamas she wears and hold her in my arms all night while we sleep.

“All right, sleepy. Time to get ready for bed.” She frowns but moves toward the bathroom. I catch her arm and pull her back to me, with her back to my chest. Lowering my mouth to her ear as my hands softly graze over her arms. “You’re going to need to be well-rested for what I have planned for the next three days.” She squirms against me, a strained laugh escapes my lips, and I release her before I change my mind.

As we crawl into bed, I pull Lucy up against me. Her scent fills my lungs as I bury my head in her shoulder. My lust begins to stir once again, but I ignore it as I feel her body relax against mine. I whisper softly, “I’m so glad to have you back.”

“I’m glad to be back,” she says with a sleepy voice before taking my hand and pulling it tighter around her body.

Lucy stirs beside me, in the same position we fell asleep in, but doesn’t wake up. My anticipation for the day won’t allow my mind to settle back into sleep.

I make slow movements toward my side of the bed and quickly make my way off of it in an effort to not wake her. I have texts from both the local florist and bakery shops asking to confirm the deliveries I scheduled for this morning in a half-hour’s time. The deliveries completely slipped my mind, but thankfully, I woke up early enough to receive them. I confirm with both via text and head into the bathroom to take a quick shower.

At the back door, the deliveries arrive together. The small box of fruit-filled pastries and half a dozen iced cupcakes are more than Lucy and I will be able to finish before the next delivery arrives in a couple of days. At least she will have a variety.

The flowers are beautiful. Three vases are filled with fresh bouquets. Pastel-colored petals sit delicately surrounded by deep green leaves exploding out the top of the vase. I hope she likes them.

Leaving one vase on the kitchen island, I place another at the center of the large dining table and bring the last one upstairs to place on her nightstand. Something beautiful for her to wake up to each morning. Just as I place them down she stirs beside me.

“Good morning,” I say as I sit on the bed next to her as she stretches.

“Good morning. What are the flowers for?” she asks.

“You, of course.”

“They’re beautiful.” She moves to sit next to me and leans over to smell them. “Thank you.”

When we shared a bed before, she woke before me each time. Watching her in this somewhat disheveled state stirs something in me.I’ll have plenty of chances to take her first thing in the morning. Today, we have plans.

“Enjoy a shower, I’m going to head downstairs.” I kiss her cheek and rise to leave. Knowing my restraint only goes so far, and I am certainly not strong enough to watch her enter the shower without joining her, I force myself to head downstairs.

After sharing the fresh pastries, I suggest a short walk. “I know how much you enjoy the snow and I’m not sure how much longer we have until it melts,” I explain, but it’s clear on her face she doesn’t need any convincing to spend time in the winter weather.

“Of course, I’ll just run upstairs to dress a little warmer.” She smiles and runs along.

Was it presumptuous to start putting her things in my closet?

Yes. Did I do it anyway…also yes.

I take her for a shortened version of the walk I usually take—we can do the regular route when the weather warms up.
