Finally, Hiro blurted out, “So, what exactly happened in Cuba?”

Dylan pulled his attention off Hollis. “Someone tried to kill us.”

“I mean between you and Hollis.”

Dylan didn’t say anything, but his dark gaze wandered back over to her.

“Are you guys like boyfriend/girlfriend now?” Hiro teased with a smirk.

“Hiro, remind me again why I keep you around.”

“Because I’m a joy. And, I create the best tech shit around.”

“Oh, right.”

Suddenly Hollis appeared in the doorway, pushing her windblown hair back and into a loose ponytail. Dylan watched the movement, the way her breasts lifted when her arms did, and his mouth went dry. “We’re almost there,” she said. “Are you guys ready?”

Hiro extended his thumb and pinky and saluted her with the famous surfrider hand gesture, the shaka. “Totally.”

Hollis smiled and Dylan thought it was the most gorgeous thing he’d seen all day.Damn, she was getting under his skin.

Once they reached their destination, Hiro and Dylan lowered a sidescan sonar system into the Atlantic Ocean while Fisher seemed to be supervising.

“We’ll use the sonar to take images of the seabed,” Hiro said. “When the sonar finds a target, we can check it out with the R.O.V. That work for you, Fish?” The dog woofed.

Hollis watched closely, trying to understand how the deep salvage equipment worked. “And, this is better than a magnetometer?” she asked.

“Magnetometers are also used for confirming targets, but, let’s face it, they’re only as good as the operator running them. An incompetent user can easily miss a shipwreck,” Hiro added.

“So, you’re saying you’re incompetent?”

Dylan laughed and Hiro cocked his head with a smirk.

“No. I’m saying, why be old school when we can be gangsta?” Hiro picked up the underwater drone and began a pre-check. “This baby will fly up and down by itself, not attached to the boat, scanning the seabed across the grid that I plot. And, I’ve attached a device that will not only detect, but will also differentiate between ferrous and nonferrous objects.”

“Oh, yeah,” Hollis said and looked at Dylan with a smile. “Like what you used in Cuba that was supposed to leave me so impressed I’d give you half of the treasure.”

“It works,” Dylan said.

“You’ll see,” Hiro said, backing Dylan up. “When we get a hit, I’ll be able to tell you if it’s a cannon or a diamond. And, all without getting wet.”

Dylan’s dark gaze slanted over Hollis. “Call me old school, but I like getting wet.”

A heated look passed between them, but Hiro was too busy with the R.O.V. to notice.

“How much contraband are we talking about, anyway?” Hiro asked.

“Around half a billion,” Dylan said.

“Whoa. Greedy Conquistadors.”

Dylan turned back to the laptop, checked out the depth reading. “This is deep alright.”

Hollis and Hiro moved closer to look over his shoulder at the screen. They were floating 1,000 feet above the ocean floor.

“Let’s see what we can find,” Hiro said.

The boat moved back and forth, dragging the sidescan sonar, and they watched the monitor in anticipation of a hit.
