As far as lectures went, André was taking mental notes.

Bob had it down.

“Do you want to produce albums?” Bob asked.

She took a breath and her shoulders slumped. “Yes.”

“Does it make you happy?” Bob asked.

“Yes.”

“Are you sure?” Bob pressed.

She sent him a flat look.

“Maybe it’s time you get real about what you want.” Bob let his final words hang in the air for a beat. Then he patted his legs and stood up, giving Nikki a moment with her thoughts.

Nikki’s eyes came to André, and he tried to convey to her all the things he’d said a thousand times. He couldn’t make her believe it though. Her dad was right. She had to make the choice herself.

All at once she sucked in a breath and her eyes sharpened on him.

“Crap,” she muttered.

She shoved to her feet and took her phone out of her pocket. She looked at André and he saw all the hope and vulnerability that meant she was getting ready to take a leap.

“You got this,” he encouraged.

She nodded and inhaled sharply. “I have to make a call.”

They finished the roof.

Had dinner, showered, and got naked again.

Being naked was André’s favorite part of his entire trip up north.

She traced lines on his chest as they both caught their breath.

He ran his fingers through her hair, savoring the silk slide against his skin.

“Your name is Nicole Amelia Harry,” he said. She stilled in his arms. He chuckled. “Your initials are NAH.”

She flopped backwards onto her pillow. “I know, it’s awful.”

He followed her and moved a tendril of hair out of her face. “I love it.”

She rolled her eyes but then she sobered and touched his cheek.

“Thank you for coming to get me,” she whispered. Her blue eyes scanned his features and he saw a hesitancy there he’d seen before.

“What’s going on in here?” he asked, grazing his fingertips over her temple.

“We have to leave in the morning,” she said, a thread of sorrow in her voice.

“Yes.” He wasn’t worried though. Not this time.

“What happens back in the city?”
