He tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “What do you mean?”

“I mean with us.” She moved to sit up and he let her. She tugged the covers around her chest and looked into her lap. “Was this just for here or…?”

“What? No.” He sat up too. “Not for me.”

She bit her lower lip and looked at him with those big blue eyes surrounded by dark lashes. “You want to be with me?” she asked.

That gorgeous vulnerability shone from her eyes, and he had to take a breath. He’d caused her to question him because of his past actions. Of course, she’d wonder what was on the horizon.

“At the risk of sounding too eager, yes. I want to be with you in every way I can imagine. I want to be with you naked. I want to be with you clothed. I want to be with you when work is hard, and I need someone to make me laugh. And I want to be with you when you’re talking nonstop about things you love, and you make me love them too.”

She smiled.

“I want that too,” she said.

He cupped the back of her head and pressed a hard kiss to her lips. He rested his forehead against hers. “You had me worried for a minute. I thought you were only using me for my body.”

She snorted and pushed him onto his back as she straddled him. His hands curved around her hips and a certain part of his anatomy came alive again.

“Oh, I’m doing that too,” she said.

This woman.

She gave meaning to everything about his life.

He was going to do his best to make sure he contributed to hers just as much.

CHAPTEREIGHTEEN

KING OF MY HEART

NIKKI

She’d gone straight to the studio the moment they got back into town. She didn’t want to waste any more time than she already had.

She and André had left the lake house just after sunrise. They had to drive their vehicles separately and she was grateful for the two hours of contemplation.

André was distracting in the best way.

But she hadn’t had a moment to catch her breath since he’d showed up two days ago.

It was easy to believe that what they’d shared at the lake house was a singular event. But somehow, she knew it wasn’t.

The André she knew three years ago would never have chased her down to make sure she was okay. He would have given her space and time because he was respectful. Also, because parents scared him.

But not only had he shown up, he’dstayed.

Her heart was still processing everything they’d shared over those two days. Their quiet conversations. Confessions. Adorations.

The way he touched her body felt new and reverent.

The way he held her like he couldn’t and didn’t want to get enough.

Never had she felt so cared for. So cherished.

So loved.

Her thoughts vacillated between everything she needed to get ready before the pop star arrived in Chicago, to the way André’s hands felt in her hair.
