He nodded his head as he looked at the ground and then at me. “Okay, you have a deal. But I don’t like it.”

“You don’t have to like it, darling...” I grinned as I walked up closer to him and raised my hands. “You think I enjoyed being blindsided with my fiancé in bed with another man?”

He didn’t answer me and raised his finger at me. “You better not let your affairs get out in the public eye or else...”

“Or else what, darling?” I said as I raised my eyebrow and pushed his finger aside. “I could just as easily bring you down with me.”

He backed up, and his threat was harmless. Both he and I knew it. He had no means to tell me what to do any longer. I wasn’t his puppet to string along. I’d be his fake wife, and that was it.

And I had a wedding to plan.

“Well, darling, we should pack and head back to the city.” I said cheerfully and clapped my hands together. “But first I’m going to have a shower and put this dreaded vacation behind us.”

I strolled into the bathroom with confidence, but deep down felt like it could break at any moment. It forever changed our relationship. We put the lie behind us, but now paved a dangerous game of cat and mouse. Secrets from way over our heads and I wondered who would make it out in one piece.

Twisted Game

We got back to thecity, and the weather was gloomy. Nothing like the bright sandy beach with sweaty warm weather. It gave me a chill as I pulled my coat tighter and held an umbrella over my head. The weather matched my mood after everything that happened, and I wished I could forget. I wanted to no longer remember his taste, touch, and smell. I craved it, but wanted to forget. He crawled into my head, borrowed there, and dug his way into every thought.

The truth ate away at me on the plane ride home and I tried my best to ignore Dylan’s constant texting. I knew it was to his lover and couldn’t believe I didn’t notice sooner. The affair was always right there, staring me in the face, and I just ignored it. I brushed it off as he was working and too busy for me, but always there for daddy.

The man I just let fuck my brain out.

But Dylan could never find out.

My legs moved faster as we approached our penthouse, and I closed my umbrella. I went straight for the door, but Dylan beat me to it and pulled out his key. We had barely talked on the journey home, and I was grateful for it. But the awkwardness ate away at me because everything has changed.

Nothing would be the same, but that was life. A constantly changing world that always spun around and went on. Everything always moved forward and nothing stayed the same.

Dylan opened the door and let me through first. I dropped my luggage and wanted to stretch out on the couch from jet leg, but found it occupied. Taken by a red-haired cutie with bright blue eyes and freckles. My best friend.

“Pais? What are you doing here?” I asked with a big smile on my face and pulled her in for a hug.

Her warmth felt so good and a comfort swept over me. I was so glad she was here and a welcomed surprise. But I expected her to be swept away by Nicholas Brava on his massive yacht.
