“Spit it out, kid. We don’t have all day,” Remy huffs. “Our patience is thin after not sleeping for days because we were worried about you.”

“Yeah, just tell us, Jordan. You know we’ll do everything we can to help,” Colt assures me.

Bracing my elbows on the table, I blurt out the truth they need to know. “Okay, so it turns out that Maddie is actually Madison Salvato, Vegas mob boss Dante Salvato’s daughter.”

Blank stares are all the reaction I get until RJ finally says, “You married a mob boss’s daughter?”

“Yes. I mean no.” Rubbing the back of my neck, I catch them up to speed. “It turns out that we’re not actually married.”

“She lied about marrying you?” Colt asks, then grins when I give a nod of confirmation. “Oh, Josie is going to love saying I told you so.” He pulls out his phone as if to call or text her the news right now.

“Wait. There’s more.”

“Great,” Remy mutters. Holding up his hand, he waves to Greer behind the bar. “We’re gonna need another round over here.”

“Coming up,” our fellow club member shouts back.

“Let’s hear it, kid,” Bear, the quietest of the Fulton brothers orders me.

“Maddie’s father has been looking for her for over a year, ever since she ran away from Vegas. And he’s not happy that she left, taking his money and his gun without telling him. In fact, he was so pissed that he sent his…employee to find her and bring her back.”

“His employee?” Colt repeats. “I’m guessing this guy is the one who needs a doctor?”

Grinning, Thane, RJ’s husband says, “Way to go, Jordy! Did you shoot him? You did, didn’t you? But why not just like, let him die?”

“Jesus,” RJ whispers as he scrubs an exasperated palm down his face following his husband’s carefree attitude about killing someone.

“So, I didn’t shoot him. Maddie did.”

“Maddie shot a man?” Remy asks, brows raised. “She shot her mob boss father’s guy?”

“Yes. He’s got a slug in his leg or maybe it went through. I didn’t look at it that closely. Now, she feels guilty and doesn’t want him to bleed to death, so she asked me to find someone to patch him up.”

“But you want to leave him to die?” Colt guesses.

“Yes and no. I want him dead, but I don’t want Maddie to be the one who ended him, you know? She’ll be all fucked up about it forever.”

“So, we have to try and mend this guy until you can take him out?” Remy asks.

“Yes, that’s the gist of it.”

“Wow,” Colt mutters. “Your mom is going to be super pissed. She’s always said that girl was trouble. Turns out, she was absolutely right.”

Eli

“How…how is your leg?” Maddie asks while she paces around the bedroom chewing nervously on her thumbnail.

“I like pain,” I remind so she won’t feel too guilty about shooting me. Still, I ask her, “What will you do if I die, Maddie?”

Looking away from me, she says, “You’re not going to die.”

“But what if I did? Are you just going to live out the rest of your life here with the biker boy who wants dick?”

“Even though he kept things from me, I love Jordan. This is what I wanted, a simple, normal life.”

“You’re really happy here? There’s nothing about Vegas that you miss?”

“I miss my dad and Sophie more than I miss Cass, but yes, I’m happier here than I would ever be if I go back home.”
