"Okay."

She pulled out both regular bras and sports bras and lay them out on a towel on the bathroom counter. A gray cotton sports bra looked clean and welcoming. I picked it up and checked the size. "This will work."

"Here's some other clothing options."

She left again while I put on the bra and a pair of black bikini underwear. I threw my white ones in the trash. It felt wasteful, but I didn't have anywhere to store them. I chose a pair of black cotton leggings and a gray T-shirt that said "Knight Security" with a horse logo on the pocket. I felt covered and protected. I added a large pale pink hoodie with a zipper and a cool boho leaf pattern.

I opened the door and smiled at her.

"You look great."

"Pink's my favorite color." Although I never wore it. I usually stuck to black and gray to blend in. Wearing a light spring color made me feel bright and cheerful in the gloomy weather we'd been having.

"Well, good then. I'm glad we brought that one. What's next?"

"Did you bring a toothbrush?"

"I did."

We reentered the bathroom. I brushed my teeth and pulled my hair back in a low ponytail with a hairband.

"There ya go. Feeling better?"

"Yes."

"Alright, do you feel strong enough to meet the team or do you want to talk to me alone first?"

"Wren?" Magnum was back at the door, his voice laced with concern.

"I'm okay. I'll be out in a little bit."

"Let me know if you want them to leave. I can have them out in a second."

It warmed my heart the way that Magnum was trying to comfort me. He would even send his friends away just because I was nervous. "No, no. I want to meet them. I'm almost ready."

"Gotcha."

I felt him leave the room again.

"Good job," Fiona said with a calming smile. "We can talk another time about all that's going on. I'll give you my number. I'm here if you need a friend."

"Thank you for helping me through this." I took a deep breath, another look in the mirror, and took her offered hand as we headed out to face "the team."

Chapter 12 The Invitation

Magnum

Leave it to my team to turn up without notice. They spooked Wren so bad, she locked herself in the bathroom. Fuckers woke me up from a deep sleep where somehow I'd ended up spooning Wren. Do not ask me how that happened because I prided myself on being a light sleeper. If that was the effect she had on me, she was lethal, and I had to keep her at an even greater distance.

Fiona came out of the bathroom first, holding Wren's hand. She looked good. I was an idiot for not offering her a shower last night.

The clothes Fiona gave her seemed to fit well. A long-sleeved sweatshirt covered the marks on her arms. She was still barefoot. We'd have to get her some shoes. The wrinkles at the corners of her eyes and the pinch of her nose told me she still held a hint of worry, but she seemed stable. "It's okay, Mag. I'm ready."

I wanted to talk to her alone, so I gave Fiona a look. "Thanks."

"Oh, right. I'll just..." She scooted away.

Blocking the view of all the folks in the other room, I leaned down to her ear and said quietly, "You have every right to privacy. I will only share what you're comfortable with."
