“Unfortunately, I do not have the same skill set that my father possessed, and under my leadership, Barnaby has slowly been sinking into bankruptcy.” Tiara lowered her phone; her attention focused on what Peter Barnaby was saying.
Questions started to shove through her brain. Is Barnaby closing? Was she about to lose her job?
Fuck she was about to lose her lover and her job all at the same time. Karma you are a bitch.
“In order for the Barnaby’s name to continue on, I have sold the company to Lehmann Corporation and their family of companies. I would like to introduce you to the new owner Christopher J. Lehmann and his staff.” Peter took a step back and swept his arm out to encompass all of the people standing on the stage.
What the hell? Tiara’s jaw dropped open at Peter’s announcement. The guy she had been intimate with for the past few months was now the new owner of the company she worked for. What fresh hell was this? She watched the beautiful brunette walk up to Peter and take the microphone from him.
“My name is Pamela Conway, and I am the head of Employees’ Relations.” Damn not only was this woman beautiful, but she was obviously intelligent to be the head of a department in Lehmann Corp. This was a blow to Tiara’s self-esteem that comparing looks never would have been. To have it proven that some stranger could move up the corporate ladder while she was stagnant. While she was still in a lowly customer service position that she been in from when she first started with Barnaby. It was a great entry level position, but most people who had been at a company as long as she has with her credentials would have made some sort of upward movement. Tiara’s career growth was a big fat zero.
“A member of my team or I will be meeting with each, and every one of you to discuss your future here with Barnaby and to discover if you will continue here or if you would be better suited for one of the Lehmann Corp other holdings.” A few others spoke before the crowd of stunned employees were dismissed. Jordan never said a word. He just continued to stand there and stare at her.
She shuffled back to her cubicle with the rest of her pod. The air was buzzing with conversation as everyone discussed the changes to the company.
“Tiara, can you believe what has happened?” Barb’s excited voice broke through the haze that had formed around her since the announcement.
“Yea…its exciting,” she mumbled not really paying attention. She sat at her computer desk. Her mind going in a thousand different directions at a thousand miles an hour. She mechanically picked up her headset as she woke up her computer. She needed to at least continue her high customer service rating. That way they couldn’t get rid of her because of poor job performance.
It was time that Lehmann Corp found out why Tiara was one of the best employees at Barnaby’s Call Center.
