Kassidy

I’ve been working at N&D for an entire week and Mr. Hawking’s demeanor towards me hasn’t changed much. On several occasions I have caught him staring those dark blue eyes my way. Mr. Hawking’s stare is enough to set me on the edge of my seat. Like now, he walks into my office, his piercing eyes are locked on mine. My breath lodges in my chest causing goosebumps to cover my skin. Why can’t I look away? He’s mean and I dislike him. He’s nothing like the friendly warm hearted Nikolai who oozes calmness. Mr. Hawking’s eyes, drags slowly over my body. I berate myself silently for letting him have this effect on me. He’s only twenty seven and I should not be thinking he’s sexy. But I do. Shame on me.

“Miss Davis, will you be finished with the Schultz report anytime soon?” His voice penetrates my thoughts and makes me focus back on business.

“I’m on it, Mr. Hawking’s. I will have the report finished before I leave the office.”

Dirk Hawking’s arches a brow. “Good. Leave the report on my desk if I’m not in my office. I have a meeting that may run late.”

“Of course, sir.”

My boss stares at me. I shiver from the deliberate look in his blue eyes. Suddenly he nods and turns to leave. I am still sitting there feeling hot and flustered with my mouth slightly open.

I take a small drink from the bottle of water on my desk and get back to work. About an hour later there is a light tapping sound at my door.

“Come in,” I call out.

The door office opens, and Cecelia, one of the many secretaries at N&D, walks in. She closes the door behind her. “Hey, do you want to get lunch? A few coworkers and I are going to a restaurant not too far from here. The day is beautiful out, and we can walk.

I give Cecelia a friendly smile. Ever since I started working here, she’s made me feel welcome. I give her a nod just as my belly boldly rumbles.

“Well, looks like someone is hungry.”

I shrug and laugh. “It seems so. I didn’t get to eat much of a breakfast this morning.”

“Okay, grab your purse and let's go,” Cecelia replies.

We made it to the restaurant ten minutes later. Cecelia’s friends are already seated at a table for four.

“Great! You two made it,” a guy with brown hair and dimples says once Cecelia and I are seated.”

“Kassidy, I’m not sure if you’ve met Pete Abrams, and this is Allie Meyers from the sales department,” Cecelia explains as she introduces me to the blonde haired woman sitting beside Pete.

I notice right off that Allie isn’t near as friendly as Pete. Her sour mood isn’t going to stop me from enjoying my lunch hour though. I’m starving!

“How are you enjoying working for our two sexy-as-sin bosses?” Cecelia asks me once we’ve placed our orders and the food arrives.

“So far so good. I’m still finding my way around the office and building. I do know they both expect excellency and I give them my best.”

“That job should have been mine,” Allie blurts out.

My eyes widen as I assess the look on Allie’s face. Her green eyes narrow on me as I stuff a roll into my mouth. “I’m sorry,” I reply not knowing what else to say.

“Well Kassidy, have you lived in the Seattle area all your life?” Pete asks trying to change the subject.

“Yes, I’m Seattle born and bred, although my parents have settled in Tampa Florida since they retired two years ago.”

“Oh, that’s nice. So are you married?” Allie inquires.

“No.”

“Do you have a boyfriend?” Allie asks.

“I’m afraid not. Are you married, Allie?”

“No, but I have my eyes on a certain someone at the office,” she admits.
