“Why are you nervous?” Shane asked. He lifted an eyebrow at her and entwined their fingers.

“It’s nothing.” She shook her head and pulled him behind her.

They walked up to the front door, and she released his hand to dig around in her purse.

The door flew open.

“Avarie!” Her father’s boisterous voice echoed through the air.

“Dad. How are you?” She flew forward into his open arms and returned the hug. “I hope you don’t mind that I brought a date,” she murmured. She pulled away with a small smile lingering on her lips.

“A date?” He glanced over her shoulder with a raised eyebrow. “Shane is your date?”

She stepped back and grabbed Shane’s hand, linking their fingers. Her heart raced; she was unsure of how her parents would feel about Shane and her having a relationship.

“Hey, Fin.” Shane stepped forward and offered his hand.

Fin barked a hefty laugh and took Shane’s hand and brought him in for a manly hug.

“Well, I’ll be. You two come on in.” Fin chuckled, releasing Shane. “Hey, Arleen. You’ll never guess who Avarie brought as a date!”

Her father’s laugh echoed in the atrium while the two men disappeared around the corner. Avarie was left standing by the front door with her mouth flopping open.

What the hell did I just miss?

“I heard what happened between Avarie and Conrad,” Fin said, pouring them a hefty amount of scotch in their glasses. The older man stood behind the bar in their family room and raised his glass in the air. “His firing has been long overdue.”

“If you had problems, you should have said something,” Shane replied. He hated to think there had been an issue and he and Trevor had been unaware.

“I’ve been around a long time and have been through much worse. But had I been there when he went on his attack on Avarie, I can’t promise I would have kept my hands to myself.” Fin took a sip of his drink before sitting it on the counter.

Shane nodded then drank some of the smooth alcohol. It had been hard not jumping over the table and plowing his fist into the older attorney.

“Well, I do have to say, Avarie was handling herself well. I just finished what she began.” He chuckled, thinking back to his first impression on walking into he room. Avarie had been cool and calm while handling Conrad.

“That sounds like my girl.” Fin laughed.

“Did I hear my name?” Avarie asked, walking into the room with her mother behind her.

Shane’s gaze roamed her body, and his cock twitched at the swell of her hips. She made her way to his side, and he couldn’t keep his hands from touching her.

Mrs. Ingram had cooked a lovely dinner, and they’d had a good time and great conversation. Avarie’s nervousness melted away, and they were able to enjoy dinner with her parents.

“So you two are a couple?” Fin asked, walking from behind the bar. He handed Mrs. Ingram a glass of wine and pulled her to his side.

Avarie turned to him with a small smile on her lips. Shane threw her a wink and gripped her tighter to him. He didn’t have a problem with claiming her in front of her parents. He knew she had been nervous about what her parents would think of them.

“Well, when you asked me to keep my eye on her…” he began.

Avarie elbowed him in the side with a squeal.

“My father did what?” She laughed.

Everyone in the room chuckled at her embarrassment. She leaned her head against his chest, hiding her face.

“It was for your best interest. I just didn’t know it would turn into this.” Her father waved his glass to them.

“Aren’t they a cute couple, Fin?” Arleen murmured, gazing upon them.
