Shane’s face broke out into a smile at the sight of Fin Ingram. Avarie’s eyes were the exact replica of her father’s. He and Trevor headed in the direction of their former counselor. Fin, an older, boisterous man, stood from the table. His smooth brown skin crinkled around his eyes with his smile. Partial retirement looked good on him. He appeared more relaxed and carefree.

“The King brothers,” Fin exclaimed, holding his hand out.

In turn, Shane and Trevor each took his hand in a strong shake, returning his smile.

“Please take your seat,” Shane encouraged, waving Fin back to his chair.

They spread around the table, Shane and Trevor choosing their seats.

“It’s good to see you boys,” Fin said.

They all settled in chairs. They were in a Downtown trendy café and had visited it before. It was one of Fin’s favorite eateries, and Shane didn’t mind it. They had great food, and he’d yet to have a meal he didn’t care for.

“Well, when you called and told me to grab my brother, I knew we were in for a treat.” Trevor chuckled.

“How are you, gentlemen?” The waitress appeared next to their table and grabbed Shane’s and Trevor’s drink order. She left with the promise to come back for their food requests.

“Partial retirement is looking good on you,” Shane teased, picking up the menu.

Laughter went around the table as Trevor joined in taunting the older man.

Shane scanned the details of what the restaurant had to offer. His stomach let itself be known with a slight growl. He and Avarie had worked up quite the appetite. Desire for her swirled around in his chest. He kept his face neutral, not wanting to alert the men of his thoughts.

He had to fight to ignore the memories of his night with Avarie. It was quite inappropriate to be thinking such thoughts of the daughter of the man he was having brunch with.

“I should have done it much sooner. It’s not so bad so far, and I may go ahead and by the end of the year fully retire. It’s time for me and the missus to live life to the fullest,” Fin professed. He relaxed in his chair and snagged his glass of water. He idly played with it and stared at it, lost in his thoughts.

“Isn’t that how its supposed to be done? Let the new generation handle the work and go live the rest of your days on a yacht sailing the world?” Trevor suggested.

“I don’t know about sailing the world.” Fin snorted.

Shane shook his head with a laugh at his brother’s dream. It had been something he’d talked about since their days in college.

“Not everyone takes to the water like you, Trevor.” Shane smiled.

Their waitress returned and gathered their orders. She disappeared again, and Shane turned his attention to Fin. His older buddy had a reason for inviting them for brunch. “So tell us, old friend. Why have you invited us here?”

“Ah, Shane. Ever the businessman sensing an ultimate reason. Do I really need one to have brunch with my two former clients?” Fin smirked. The glint in his eye gave away that the man was up to something.

“Of course not.” Trevor snickered, holding his drink. “Hell, if I wouldn’t have gone over to his house he’d—”

Shane cut his eyes to Trevor. His brother paused with the realization of what he was about to say. Avarie had asked for more time so she could speak with her father about their newfound relationship. He’d respect her wishes.

“Boys, boys. Settle down,” Fin encouraged with a laugh. “I invited you here to discuss Avarie and her performance.”

Performance? Shane had to keep from adjusting himself. Just thinking of Avarie’s performance in his bed had him wanting lock the two of them away so they could enjoy each other’s bodies until neither of them could walk.

“She’s much like you,” Trevor said, breaking through Shane’s reverie.

Shane shook his head and tried to pull his thoughts from the gutter. He ran a hand through his hair and grabbed his water. He took a healthy sip, suddenly noticing how dry his throat had become.

“She’s doing fine. Our legal team will moan and groan, but so far her recommendations have been on point. She’s a smart cookie.”

“And feisty, too. Immediately let everyone know she wasn’t taking any shit.” Trevor laughed.

“That’s Avarie all right,” Fin beamed. He never hid the fact that he was proud of his two girls. “So I’m going to ask the two of you for a favor.”
