Her cheeks warmed at his comment. Had she’d known that Shane’s younger brother was in the house waiting for them, she wouldn’t have allowed—wait, no.

She’d be lying if she said she wouldn’t have given in to the temptation of Shane’s cock.

She would have indulged in Shane again.

No doubt about it.

She would have just not been as vocal as she was.

Shane broke the unspoken stare-off with Trevor before turning his attention to Avarie. His face lit up, and the strong resemblance in the two men was highly apparent. From what she knew, the two were as close as two brothers could be. She’d read up on both of the King men when taking the job. Trevor was the one who was the more laid back of the two, and the twinkle in his eye gave away his playful side.

“You still haven’t answered me on why you are here and who requested for me to meet with them for brunch,” Shane reminded Trevor.

There was no denying Shane’s irritation at being summoned. His intense eyes remained locked on his sibling.

“Well, I guess it’s best Avarie is here, she can come along with us. Fin wants to meet for brunch.”

“My father?” Avarie gasped. She moved to pull away from Shane, but his grip was locked on her. If she hadn’t been in such a state of shock to find it was her father wanting to meet with Shane on a Saturday, she would have laughed.

This was not the way she would have wanted to tell her father about her and Shane. She bit her lip and released a sigh. She just didn’t know how her father would respond to the fact that she was sleeping with their client. He’d always instilled in her strong work ethnics, and sleeping with the C.E.O of the company she was to represent might be stepping over the line of attorney-client etiquette.

“It was to be a surprise, but my stubborn brother here always wants to control things,” Trevor noted with a shake of his head.

“Well, you should have said that it was Fin,” Shane said, his voice gruff. He glanced down at her and relaxed. “I’d love to meet with Fin.”

“You know what…” Avarie paused, meeting Shane’s eyes. She moved to stand in front of him and blew out a deep breath, trying to control her racing heart. “Can I talk to you for a second? Alone?”

Shane met his brother’s gaze over her shoulder and gave a nod toward the door.

“I’ll be in the kitchen,” Trevor murmured, disappearing from the room.

“What is it?” Shane asked.

His hands came to rest on her shoulders. She felt slightly comforted as he slowly rubbed her arms.

“What’s got you so spooked?” he asked.

“This isn’t the way that I would want to tell my father that you and I are involved.” A weight felt as if it had been lifted from her shoulders at her admission.

Understanding dawned in Shane’s eyes as he gripped her shoulders.

“Your company is technically a client of mine. My dad is really strict about rules, and involvement with a client is absolutely a no. I just need time to figure out how to tell him.”

“How do you want to do it?”

“Well, certainly not strolling in to brunch together after the night we had.”

He wrapped his strong arms around her, bringing her body flush to his.

She leaned into him, a smile blossoming on her lips. “We’ll tell him, just not today.”

His eyes darkened slightly before he dipped his head and placed a small kiss on her lips. “As you wish, but we don’t need to hide anything. We are two consenting adults. Fin would understand.”

She rested her hand along his muscular chest and let out a sigh. Her father was a responsible man, but showing up unable to keep their hands off each other was not the way to tell him.

“Let’s just do it my way, please?” Her breath caught in her throat as she waited for his response.

His lips tipped up at the corner, and with a nod, he kissed her forehead. “Whatever you want.”
