“We’ll figure out some good options.” He ran his hand over my head one more time before reaching down to pat my thigh. “Yes, we’ll find some reasonable options too.”

So there were good ones and reasonable ones?

Couldn’t they be both?

Dally’s voice in the back of my head popped up and told me not to be stupid.

“Thank you, Daddy.” Yeah, I was going to see what he came up with before I tried to help and ended up with some kind of babysitter who could drive.

“You’re welcome.” Daddy was trying to have good manners but he was still letting out long sighs. “We’ll work it out.”

I was definitely going to end up with a babysitter.

Chapter 14

Elias

I just needed to keep him safe, well-fed, and to make sure he got enough sleep. It couldn’t be that hard.

Repeating my new mantra over and over as we headed inside hadn’t helped make it more believable, but I wasn’t scaring Milo, so I thought that was a good sign.

“How about I get my jammies on and we read a book?” Searching the house as we walked into the living room, he bounced on his feet, wiggling more as he frantically thought about ways to distract me. “We haven’t cuddled today. I haven’t gotten enough kisses.”

Before I could decide if I was going to laugh or roll my eyes, he tried again. “We could watch a movie? Have a date night? You could put on a show you like? Oh, we could find a documentary to watch together.”

“You are not staying up late, so no movies.” My firm tone had him smiling sweetly. “I can’t decide if you’re looking cute to manipulate me or if you’re glad you’ve distracted me.”

“Both.” His honest answer came with a cute cheek kiss. “But you’re cute when you take care of me.”

“Brat.” That got a giggle from him as he wrapped himself around me. “But my brat needs a keeper.”

Pancakes for dinner and hours on the bus.

Bullshit.

“How are you going to keep me tonight?” His grin said he didn’t mind being kept. “I think I need to leave clothes here.”

I wasn’t going to argue with that since it’d been the next logical step to me. “I think that’s a good idea. If we have time, I’ll get them from your place in the morning. If not, we’ll do it after work.”

He was doing his best not to laugh but his eyes were sparkling. “I think you were supposed to tell me to slow down.”

My eyes rolled on their own. I couldn’t help it. “No. I will not be telling you to slow down.”

“Should I ask why?” Giggles were sneaking out and he looked very pleased with the way the conversation was going. “Maybe it’s because you like having someone to boss around?”

“It’s called caretaking.” I huffed. “It’s only being bossy if I was a sub.”

Laughter spilled out of him and he buried his face against my shoulder. “You…you have to tell Dally that. He’s going to love it.”

“That sounds dangerous.” My ridiculous answer was delivered dryly enough to set off Milo’s giggles again.

“How are you going to caretake me around?” Milo thought he was hilarious but managed to get his laughter under control as he stood straighter.

“It’s already late considering how hard you worked today, so we’re going to get clean and get you in jammies. Then if you’re good, you can help pick out how we relax after that.” I was thinking in terms of books or the documentary he’d mentioned, but as he inched back, his gaze dropped to my chest.

Just imagining what he was thinking was enough to make them ache and I had to resist the urge to press on them or do something that would make it obvious. “I’m flexible about what we can do, though.”

He wasn’t exactly little but I was pretty sure I knew where his mind had gone.
