But the spaceships shot their green beams all around us. Xaden beat his wings, lifting us high into the air, he twisted and dove, dodging the beams like he was playing a game he always won.

We passed through the barrier, I heaved out a breath. I turned and hugged him. His warm kiss on my lips sent my toes curling. I never wanted to stop kissing him, but I pulled away.

“Melody.” I choked out. “My friend, can you save her?”

“I’ll get her,” Trox answered and nodded to several warriors who flew with him.

“But the Roulex and the whatever she is that can change shapes.” My chest tightened. “W-What if they get captured?”

“Alva and the others are helping to block their beams. They can’t do it long, but enough to save your friend. What about the man?”

“He’s dead.” I shuddered. “And he was never my father. He sold me out to the Roulex, something I wouldn’t do to anyone.”

Xaden rubbed my arms and within minutes Trox returned with Melody.

“Riley?” she asked groggily, looking up at Trox. “Have we gone to hunk heaven?”

“I’ve given her a quick healing, she’ll need a more skilled one, but she’ll survive.” Trox kept her in his arms.

I touched my friend’s cheek. “No, you’re not dead, you’re going to be fine.”

Trox walked her out of the courtyard and Xaden swooped me into his arms.

“So, you’ve got something you should be sharing with me?” His eyebrows lifted as he looked down at my once flat stomach.

“Um…yeah.” I suddenly felt nervous. “You’re going to be a dad.” Would he hate me like my father had my mother? Would he not want anything to do with me now that I’d forever changed into a mother?

He cupped my face and brushed a soft kiss against my lips. “And you are amazing. You are the only one I want to have a family with. I love you.”

Tears sprung from my eyes. “Really?”

“Yes.” He kissed me again. “Forever.”

“I love you too.” I laughed and cried, hugging him to me like I could soak him up. Then I sobered a bit. “There’s one more thing… well, three actually.”

His amethyst eyes filled with expectation. “That you nearly swooned when I rescued you after you saved me?”

“No.” I chuckled. “Though if we’re counting, you owe me a couple of more rescues for us to be even.”

He brought my hands up to his lips, kissing the knuckles on both. “Anytime, anywhere. I would die for you, Riley.”

“I’d rather you stay alive.” I moved a hand from his to place it over his heart. “Especially since we’re going to have three Angeliminir to raise together.”

“Three? Triplets?”

I nodded. “Now don’t faint on me again. Last time I tried to tell you this, you passed out on me.”

“Angeliminir do not faint,” he grumbled. “I merely had to heal like all do after injury.”

“Of course. Tell me that again when you’re changing dirty diapers.” I lifted on my toes and kissed his chin.

“Did you see my second gift?” Jax rushed up to us, hugging us both. “It looked real right, I mean it fooled them, didn’t it?”

“Yes, thank you for helping me.”

He beamed. “Oh, you should both come and see me beat Ximena.”

Hand in hand we followed Jax to the plateau outside the city palace. Ximena squealed in delight and hugged Xaden.
