“I bet you remember a lot about me. What was my favorite color?”

“Green. You used to love to wear that green sweater that showed too much cleavage. I shouldn’t have said that.”

“No, you’re right. I did love that sweater. I have no idea what happened to it, but I did love to wear it. Does referencing my cleavage make you uneasy?” she says with a smirk.

“Not at all wiseass.”

From there, the conversation flows for the next two hours. It’s like we’ve never been separated. She glances at her watch and tells me that she needs to go. Declan is going to call her at 9:00 to discuss the invitations, and she needs to be home where the samples are.

“I’m sorry to leave. I had such a good time. Can we do this again?”

“Of course. I would love to see you again.”

“How about Friday. You could come to The Plaza for dinner.”

“I’m not much for high society. Why don’t we hit a burger place or some sloppy ribs?”

“Zane, I have a wedding dress to fit into. I can’t eat all that heavy stuff.”

“You had no problem when we were together.”

“Yeah, but I’m almost thirty, and I can’t eat that way anymore. I don’t want to have the need to take my dress out because I gained weight. Declan likes me thin.”

That pisses me off to hear. I would never tell Lana she needed to lose weight. I would love her no matter if she gained weight or not.

“Does he say anything?”

“Not usually.”

“Lana, that’s not right. He shouldn’t.”

“Declan just wants to make sure I’m healthy.”

I want to laugh because he’s a bit on the chunky side. He could stand to lose about twenty pounds himself. Isn’t that hypocritical?

“I’m sure he does, but he should talk.”

“It doesn’t bother me. I know he wants to show me off when we go out.”

“If you're okay with it, then I’m done saying anything.”

I pay the bill and escort her outside the restaurant. Before I can hail a cab for her, she hugs me tightly. It takes me a moment, but I hug her back just as hard.

“What was that for?”

“I’m just so happy that we’re friends. I’ve missed you.”

“I missed you too. Let me know where you want to go for dinner.”

“You could come up to my suite, and we could order room service. Then you can have a top-notch burger.”

“I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

“Why not,” she innocently asks.

“Lana, I don’t think that we should be in your private residence together alone. If Declan were around, it would be a different story.”

“Are you saying you can’t control yourself?”
