“I haven’t the slightest idea. Did you see Lana anywhere?” I whisper.

Lucian shakes his head, and Olivia gives me a sympathetic look. He must have told her the condition I was in when he got me from Clancy’s. We chat for a few minutes, and then I see her. Lana is winding her way through the tables with Declan behind. They stop to talk to several other patrons before they get to the front and our table.

She looks stunning in a full-length black gown with crystal accents. A diamond choker circles her neck along with a matching bracelet, but even so, she still wears the ever-present locket. It seems out of place, and my previous thoughts of its sentimental value must be correct.

She gives a million-dollar smile as she takes her seat next to me. I immediately catch the scent of her perfume, and it makes me dizzy. Declan reaches across her and offers me his hand while introducing himself.

“I’m sorry. Declan darling, this is Zane Butler,” Lana says.

I smile politely and introduce Serena, Lucian, and Olivia. Declan is quite chatty and asks me about my software business. Though I want to hate the man, I can’t; he’s very charming and cordial. Lana sits quietly, sipping the champagne that she was served upon her arrival. After a few minutes, we’re served dinner, and the room quiets of conversation.

Halfway through the meal, I freeze as a hand grasps my knee. I put down my scotch and slip my own under the tablecloth to cover it. I can feel the large stone as I move over the contours of Lana’s fingers. I quickly look at Declan, and he’s engaged in conversation with the man to his right. Serena and Olivia are talking to Lucian, so no one sees what’s going on.

“Lana, what are you doing?” I whisper.

“Find me,” she whispers and pulls her hand away, then gets up. I watch as she heads out the door. No one is paying attention, and after a few minutes, I leave my half-finished dinner to find her. I walk the hallway and locate her down at the end, sitting in one of several beige wing-backed velvet chairs that make up a small lounge area.

“Zane, I’m glad you came.”

I sit in the chair opposite her. “Are you crazy doing that with your fiancé sitting right next to us?”

“I wanted to get your attention.”

“All you had to do was talk to me.”

“I didn’t want anyone seeing us talk before we both left the room.”

“So, what’s with all the secrecy?”

“I miss you, Zane. I miss talking to you.”

I’m shocked. “You should have never left then. You waited five years to tell me this?”

“I’ve had time to think about it since I saw you.”

“Lana, if this is going where I think it is, just stop.”

She frowns. “And where do you think it’s going?”

“You want to sleep with me.”

Her face reddens, “Are you crazy. I would never cheat on Declan.”

“Then why did you touch my knee? You could have touched my arm just as easily.”

“I didn’t want anyone to see.”

“You know what I think? I think that since the last time I saw you and mentioned my tongue being buried inside you, that you’ve been wet and can’t stop thinking about it.”

I watch her and see that she’s squeezing her legs together; it makes me smile.

“You’re mistaken.”

“Then why are you holding your legs together so tight. I bet right now; your panties are soaked just thinking about me fucking you.”

“You’re crude, Zane.”

“I am, but you loved it when I talked this way. Did that change now that you have Declan’s ring on your finger? You need to be a picture of high society.”
