“You may or may not know that I’m engaged and moving back to the city.”

“You couldn’t miss that artifact on your hand, so yes, I do know you’re engaged. However, I didn’t know you were moving back to Manhattan,” I lie.

“My fiancé, Declan Blair, wanted me to see if we can come to some sort of a truce.”

“Why? I’m not a child. Do you think I’ll have an outburst if I see you on the street? I got over you a long time ago.”

She raises her eyebrows. “Have you?”

“Did you want me to pine for you? Search for you? Maybe slit my wrists over our separation?”

“No. I wanted you to move on. I did.”

“Yes, I see that. Declan Blair? You once talked about our age difference as being large, so now you’re going to marry a man over twenty years older? It makes me think our break up had little to do with the time we spent and more to do with money.”

Lana glares at me. “It had nothing to do with money. It had to do with the fact that you couldn’t prioritize your life. You drove me away. Declan knows how to put me as number one in his life, and his business world is a lot larger than yours.”

“Along with his bank account,” I mutter. I get up and sit against my desk, right in front of her. From my vantage point, I can see her delicious cleavage, and I want to plant kisses there. Lana squirms a little, pressing her back against the chair.

“Why are you so close?”

I lean down. “Because what I have to say requires me to be. Let me ask you this Lana, can Declan make you come multiple times a night? Can he bury his tongue deep inside you and make your legs shake with orgasm after orgasm?” I whisper.

She doesn’t bat an eye and looks at me with the intensity that she used to when we made love. “He can deliver a lot more than that. It wasn’t always about sex, Zane.”

“But that was part of it. Tell me you don’t miss what we had?”

“I don’t. I’ve moved on, and I have an appointment to get to, so if you’ll excuse me.”

I don’t move, and she rises so that we’re almost nose to nose. Her lips are so close to mine. She turns, and I catch her scent. In the years we’ve been apart, she still smells the same, floral, feminine, and sexy. God, how I want her. I follow her to the door and reach around to open it, my arm brushing against the swell of her breast.

“Goodbye, Miss Collins. I promise to behave at social events, so I don’t embarrass you or Declan Blair,” I practically spit his name.

“Thank you. I appreciate it. I’ll see you around.”

I watch her walk down the hall and realize my legs are jelly. I move to the couch to sit. Lucian comes in seconds after she leaves.

“Holy shit! That was Lana?”

“Is that for the fact that she was here or how gorgeous she looks?”

“Both. She is incredible. The pictures don’t do her justice.”

“She’s more beautiful than when we were together.”

“Why was she here? To twist the knife a little?”

“No. She asked me to be a good boy when I see her and Declan in public. Like I was going to cause a scene.”

“How as that conversation?”

“Heart-wrenching. I wanted to take her in my arms and kiss her senseless.”

“You still love her, don’t you?”

“More than you know, or I care to admit.”

“You’re going to have to deal with it. She’s with someone else.”
