Lana wrinkled her nose at me, “Half that stuff has holes or some silly character on it. It’s time to dress like a successful businessman.”

I put my arms out from my sides, dangling them above me, “And this says success?”

“Do it for me? Please?”

She was pleading with me, and I wondered if there was another reason why she wanted to play dress-up with me.

“Is there something you want to tell me?”

“My father’s friend is going to be there with his family. I dated his son for two years in college. He’s engaged.”

“So, you want me along to impress them?”

“No, I want you along because you’re my boyfriend. I need your support. His fiancée is a raving bitch. She isn’t very nice to me and is constantly making snide comments.”

“So, why are you bothering to go?”

“It’s my parent’s house. How would it look if I said no?”

“Lana, you’re an adult. You don’t need to say yes to everything your parents want you to do.”

“It’s not only that. You’ve been working so hard, and I want to spend some time with you.”

She was right about that. The past week I was in the office until nine at night. By the time I got home, I was exhausted. Lana had been patient with me, letting me sleep a few hours before she woke me to make love.

“I promise to spend time with you this week, but don’t get angry if I have to take a call or hop on my laptop for a conference.”

She exhaled loudly, “I know. You already told me this. Can we just finish getting ready? The limo will be here soon.”

We finished dressing in silence. I slipped on the boat shoes she bought me and hand combed my hair. She was wearing the sexy peach sundress that I loved so much; her auburn hair pulled back in a loose braid. I wanted to strip her out of her clothes and fuck her before we left, but we barely had time to zip my suitcase when the lobby called letting us know our ride was here.

I carried the Louis Vuitton bag that Lana had brought over with her clothing for the trip. It was twice the size of my suitcase, and I wondered how she managed to get it here without killing herself.

When we were tucked away in the back of the limo, I brought up the question of sleeping arrangements. I knew her parents would never allow us to sleep in the same bed.

“Where am I going to be placed once we get to the house?”

“Probably in the east wing. Most of the family will be in the west wing, and I’m not sure if there will be room for you there.”

“Wing? How big is this house?”

“It has nine bedrooms. My sister Alicia will be there.”

“I didn’t know you had a sister. You never told me that before.”

“I thought I did. We don’t get along.”

“Where does she live?”

“Here.”

“She lives in Manhattan, and you don’t see her or talk about her? What does she do?”

“Nothing. She doesn’t work, and there is nothing my father can do about it. Alicia lives off of a trust fund my mother’s father left her. She was his favorite.”

“He left her a trust fund and left you nothing?”

“I got the apartment I live in. Nowhere near what she got, but I was surprised I even got that.”
