Chapter 17

By Sunday, Olivia and I have mostly spent the last five days in bed making up for lost time. For Thanksgiving, we taken a couple of hours off to make some steaks and mashed potatoes. But I can’t get enough of her. Everything about her excites me even more than before. It’s probably because she’s mine now. I couldn’t be happier.

One day, she helped me shovel the driveway. While we talked, we decided we would take her rental car back to the city and leave my truck here. I use a large tarp in the shed to cover it up for the winter. I’m going to have to figure out what to do with it, but not until next spring when we can get out of here without a problem.

I tell Olivia that this place is beautiful in the summer, and there is plenty to do on the lake—fishing, boating, and swimming. This will be the perfect vacation place for us until we have children, then we would have to find a bigger place or rebuild.

Except for the road from the lake, the roads are clear. Once we get out onto the main highway, it was like it hadn’t snowed. The pavement is dry, and because it warmed a bit, the piled-up snow was starting to melt.

I drove the rental car back to the city. We hadn’t been in contact with anyone since Olivia arrived, so they had no idea we were back together. We hold hands most of the way, and I often kiss and suck her fingers, which elicits heated looks from Olivia.

“Luc, will you sleeping over tonight?” she asks along the way.

“I probably should since the food in my dusty apartment is most likely rotted.”

“I cleaned the refrigerator out before I went to stay at Lexi’s.”

My heart clenches. I kicked her out of my apartment when I left. I told Lexi to tell her to go. I feel horrible because I displaced her.

“Can you forgive me? I was upset. I should never have told you to leave.”

“This was a learning experience for both of us.”

I stroke her hand with my thumb. “I just need to stop at the loft to get some clothing. I don’t have any stuff to wear for work.”

“You left without clothes? Did you shop?”

“No, I had clothes at the cabin. When I came to New York, I only brought a few things, though some of those clothes are tight now. I gained weight since I was last here.”

“You seem to have maintained all that sexy muscle since you left.”

“If you saw what the cabin looked like before you came, you would know why. I tore that place apart. It was a mess.”

“You did a great job with it. I would think you hired a contractor, especially for the shower.”

I glance at her and smile. We made love in there a few times with her back pressed against the newly tiled wall while I thrust into her.

“I was hoping to share a bath with you,” I add.

“I don’t have a tub.”

“But I do. I’ll have to get the maid into the loft so we can share it. It’s probably dusty after three weeks. Oh, I forgot to tell you something.”

“What? Is there a problem?”

“I love you.”

She squeezes my hand as we enter the city. We stop at the rental place to drop her car off then head to my apartment to pick up some clothing. I might as well leave a few things at her place if we are going back and forth. I’ll make some room in my dresser for her things too.

When I open the door, everything is just as I left it. I leave Olivia in the living room while I head to my bedroom. I stop at the guest room and peer in. It’s clean and neat. Another pang of guilt stabs me. She knew I was angry with her, and she still left the place as she found it.

I take a few things out of the dresser, and after I remove the dirty clothing, I place the items I’m taking to Olivia’s in my bag. When I look up, she’s standing in the doorway looking gorgeous. Her thick black hair falls around her face like a curtain, and she has a slight grin on her face.

“Sweetheart, you’re very distracting.”

“Oh, am I?”

“You are.”
