I wait a few minutes but get no reply, so I decide to get myself a cup of coffee. Lucian is sitting on the terrace when I enter the kitchen. There’s a fresh pot of coffee already made. I pour some in a mug and join him. The fog in the park is lifting as the sun begins to blaze bright.

“Hey, sleepyhead. I thought you’d never get up.”

“I was tired. I had a busy week, and with the 2:00 AM phone call, that just made it worse. Have you talked to Noah?”

“Yeah, he called me a couple of hours ago. Rory’s fine. Sleeping comfortably, and they should release her from the hospital later today.”

“He texted me, and I was asleep. I texted him back but got no answer.”

“He might be sleeping.”

“Noah said he was going to stay at your parent’s house.”

“Good luck with that. They said they were going to the house in Chatham this weekend. I’m not sure if he has a key.”

“So, where would he go if he couldn’t stay there?”

“Maybe a hotel.”

My mind starts racing. Would he stay with Vivian? I don’t want that.

“What’s the matter?”

“Nothing.”

“Come on, Lexi, I know you better than that.”

“Would he stay with Vivian?”

“I doubt it.”

Would he even tell me if he did?

“Are you sure?”

“As far as I know, no. What’s got you so insecure? I’ve never seen you this way before.”

“I’m just on edge with everything. In less than four months, we’re getting married and we still have so much to take care of before the wedding.

“So, get on Noah’s ass. I know he gets too involved in his work.”

“What would you like to do today?”

“I’m game for anything, but I’d love to go to Central Park.”

I brighten because I love to walk around the park in the warm weather. I’m surprised he didn’t say something like visit the South Street Seaport.

“I can handle that. I need to shower.”

“Go, I’ll clean up the coffee cups while you’re in there.”

I take a quick shower and put on a pair of khaki shorts and a white tank top. I’m in no mood to blow dry my hair, so I put it in a ponytail. When I come out of the bedroom, Lucian is sitting on the couch reading one of my bridal magazines.

“Hey, are you serious?”

“What? These women look beautiful. I can’t wait to see you in one of these dresses.”

I almost wish that Noah felt that way. Lucian always says things to me that he would never. It’s not that he’s not complimentary, because he is, but he would never get all sappy like Lucian. I can feel my face getting hot from embarrassment.
