“Let’s go.”
Lucian gets up and offers his arm to me. I wrap my hand around his forearm, and we head to the elevator. The park entrance is just a short walk from the apartment. It’s teeming with activity because the weather is hot and sunny. We walk around the moms with strollers, joggers, and park entertainers. I’m beginning to sweat and release Lucian’s arm, wiping my hand on my shorts.
As we forge a path through the park, I hear my name called. Turning, I look for anyone familiar but can’t see where it came. We continue to walk, and I hear my name again. I turn around and see JC behind me with Hunter in tow.
As usual, he’s beautiful. His chest is bare, and every ridge and muscle is glistening with sweat. His light blue t-shirt is tucked into the waistband of his basketball shorts and hanging down his thigh. Hunter is dressed much the same but holds a soccer ball in one hand and a bottle of water in the other.
I know I shouldn’t be having thoughts about JC’s half-naked body, but I can’t help it. He looks so sexy. His sandy hair is soaked with sweat and hangs on his forehead in a mass of strings.
“Hey, what are you doing here?”
“Same as you, just hanging out.”
He offers his hand to Lucian, “Camden. This is my brother Hunter, and you are?”
“I’m sorry, where are my manners. This is Lucian, Noah’s brother.”
They shake hands, and Lucian strikes up a conversation with Hunter about the New York Red Bulls Soccer team since he’s wearing their shirt. I pull JC over to the side and he asks why I didn’t text him back last night.
“I was with Noah and Lucian.”
He raises his eyebrows, and I know he’s thinking about a threesome.
“You’re a pervert,” I whisper.
“How could you possibly know what I’m thinking?”
“Because I know you.”
“Where’s Noah?”
“He had to go to Boston early this morning for an emergency.”
I’m not ready to tell him about Rory yet. I didn’t even discuss it with Megan.
“Oh. So, you’re out with your brother-in-law?”
“He had a scheduled visit and came last night.”
Again, the raised eyebrows, and I realize it’s the word “came.”
“Would you stop it!”
“I love to get you riled up. You’re so sexy when you get like that.”
I gesture over to Lucian. “Stop it. That’s Noah’s brother for fuck's sake. What were you doing at McCorvey’s last night?”
“Drinking with Hunter and Megan.”
This is news to me. I had no idea she got in touch with Hunter or JC.
“Really? Is that why you texted me?”
“No. I texted because I wanted to hang out. I miss you, Lexi.”
“Shh.”
“They aren’t paying attention to us.”
