“Wow, excuse me.”

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it that way. Are you home this weekend?”

“Yes. Nothing on the schedule that needs me out in the field.”

“Are you we going to talk?”

“Talk?”

“You said you wanted to talk to me something. I’m curious.”

His face tightens. “Uh, yeah. I guess.”

“Noah, I could call in sick if it’s serious.”

“It’s not. I’m just not sure how you’ll take it.”

“That only worries me more.”

“Lexi, it’s not what you think, but it is important you know before we get married.”

I’m silent for a minute because it must be serious if he wants me to know before we become man and wife. It’s getting late, and I have much to do at the office, so I need to get going.

“Can we talk tonight?”

“I want to. I think it’s best we do it as soon as possible.”

“You could have told me before you left.”

“No. This is something I don’t want to drop and go. You might have follow-up questions and it’s best they are asked while I’m here.”

“Fine. I’ll see you tonight.”

I kiss his cheek, and he pulls me into a full embrace, cupping my ass while his tongue invades my mouth. I shrink away quickly because if he keeps that up, I’m going to be late.

“Behave.”

“It’s not easy with you smelling so good. You’re hot, Lexi.”

“Thank you, Noah, so are you.”

I smile at him as I walk out the door.

Thirty minutes later, I’m sitting at my desk when JC pokes his head in my door. I can feel a heated flush on my face when I think back to what I did in bed and the shower even though it’s none of his business.

“How are you this morning?”

“I’m good. How are you?”

He comes in and closes the door, sitting in one of the chairs in front of my desk.

“I told Brianna last night.”

“You drove to Cape Cod?”

“Fuck, no. I called her. I wasn’t driving five hours to ask for a divorce.”

“You told her over the phone?”
