“Number one, you fucked other women,” I growled in a low voice.

“I don’t do that now.”

“You shouldn’t since you’re married, but I have my doubts.”

JC frowns. “Why the fuck would you say that?”

“Because you’ve been making overtures toward me since I started working for you. You need to understand, I’m marrying Noah. I won’t cheat on him.”

“I won’t cheat on Brianna either. I’ll leave her first but there’s only one woman I would leave her for.”

“Then I guess you’re staying married.”

“You should reconsider.”

“JC, you already said her father and yours would cut your balls off.”

“So, you would reconsider if I left Brianna?”

“Don’t twist my words. I’m marrying Noah, period.”

His eyes shoot up. “JC, honey, can you make us some drinks? Maybe a pitcher of Mimosas?” Brianna calls from the pool.

“Isn’t it a little early to start drinking? It’s only 11:30.”

“By the time you make them and get glasses, it will be closer to twelve, please?”

“Sure.”

JC gets up to go make the drinks and I follow him into the house, leaving my towel on the chair.

His eyes sweep up and down my body. “You see how sexy you are. Your stomach is flat as a board and your legs are nice and shapely.”

“Please don’t start. I just came in for a bottle of water.”

“Stay while I make the drinks?”

His pretty blue eyes plead with me and I climb onto one of the stools in front of the wide expanse of gray granite. JC moves around the kitchen getting a tall glass pitcher and the ingredients he’ll need to make the mimosas.

“So, what do we have coming up at work?”

“You want to discuss work? It’s a holiday.”

“Then what do you want to talk about?”

“Us, being friends.”

“JC, I can be friends with you, but you can’t make comments regarding the past. Let’s leave our past in the past.”

“I want to know, was it that bad? When you look back on our relationship, was it as terrible as you make it seem?”

“No. We had some good times, but then we also had some awful times. And it ended on a horrible note.”

“I know. I also know that I was the reason for a lot of those bad times. I’m sorry for the things I did to you. You deserved better.”

“Why couldn’t you give me better when we were together?”

“Because I didn’t know what I wanted back then. I thought I had it all sewn up. Go to college, find a wife, get married, have a successful career, maybe some kids.”
