We share a cab to Olivia’s place, and I get out with her. I want to see the apartment since Matty had the furniture delivered two days ago. Upstairs, the place is much like Megan’s. It’s open, airy, and sunny. The furnishings look lovely in the space and I inwardly pat myself on the back for having a good sense of style.

“Were you surprised?” I asked.

“I was. I can’t believe you and Matty went through all this trouble.”

“You said you sold all your furnishings, so we wanted you to be cozy when you got here. What would you have done without furniture?”

“I was going to rough it with a sleeping bag and some crates until I could pick out some.”

“I think that would have worn thin, and you would’ve slept at Matty’s. You could have gone downstairs to sleep at Megan’s.”

We talk about girl stuff and things we missed about each other over the past several months. I’ve been with her for hours, and I don’t want to leave, but I’m sure that Noah will want to have dinner with me, and I text him to let him know I’m on my way. I hug her tight as I get ready to leave with promises to get together in the next few days.

On the walk home, I see a dark car pass with a woman that looks very much like Vivian in the passenger seat. I must be seeing things because Rory told me she was in Cape Cod for the weekend.

The apartment is quiet when I get home, and as I traverse the large space, I hear the water in the shower. Why is Noah taking a shower so late?

“Hey, I’m home,” I say as I peek in the bathroom.

“Hi, baby.”

“Why are you showering now?”

“I decided to workout. You didn’t want me all sweaty, do you?”

“I appreciate a clean, Noah. I’ll be in the kitchen. I’m thirsty.”

I find his explanation strange because he either works out in the morning or after dinner. I’m suspicious, and I look for his sweaty workout clothes in the dirty clothes hamper in the closet. I don’t find any, only his boxers that he had on this morning. Maybe it’s my imagination but I smell perfume and it’s not mine. I try not to jump to conclusions.

Noah finds me out on the terrace drinking a bottle of water. His hair is damp from his shower, and he’s only wearing a pair of shorts.

“How was your day with Olivia? You were gone for a long time.”

“I haven’t seen her for months. I missed her.”

“What did you do while I was gone?”

“Oh, a little of this and a little of that.”

“Was it a productive day?” I try not to sound accusatory.

“What are you getting at?”

“Nothing. I’m just asking what you did.”

“I was busy. Is there something you want to say?”

“Noah, stop reading into it. I don’t want to argue.”

“How was your dress fitting?”

“It was fine though they said my measurements are smaller. They had to take the dress in.”

“Why? Did you lose weight?”

“Yes. A few pounds, I guess.”

“Lexi, are you eating?”
