And I slam the door in her face.

My body is tense and I just want to throw something.

How dare she. How dare she insinuate that something happened between Summer and I when she and I were together. When I wasn’t the person who broke up the relationship we had. Was I in love with her? I can’t really answer that, but I was willing to give it a try. She was having my baby after all, and I was a grown man, well, a young man that was willing to make things work for my child. I never strayed from our relationship when I was with her.

Sure, the crush of Summer had always been in the back of my mind, but I’m a loyal guy and could never bring it upon myself to cheat on someone. I’m sure even if the chick from The Big Bang Theory would approach me for some good times, that my loyalty would still lay with the woman that I am with.

Marie has zero right to accuse me of such things and now my day is ruined. I should never have allowed her into the house. We do not need to have discussions about anything other than Mason.

I slam my fist against the wall and pull back with a stinging on my knuckles. I observe them and thankfully see no blood. I look at the wall and see a small indent and shake my head.

I pull my phone out of my pocket and dial Luke’s number.

“Hey bro,” he answers.

“Hey, you want to grab a drink?” I ask.

“Um, I’ve got a meeting in ten, but that should only last an hour, what are you thinking?”

“I’ll come to you. I need to get out of the house and I need a deep burn in my throat right now.”

“Shit, alright, I’ll push the meeting. Meet you in the lobby?”

“Got it.”

“Your drenched, what the fuck dude, did you run here?” Luke asks, holding out his hands in my direction as he approaches.

“I walked here,” I state simply.

“Fuck you, you didn’t.”

“No, I needed to vent out some frustration and walking helped a little.”

“Alright, you’re going to tell Mr. Luke everything, but first we need some adult nectar in front of us.”

“Mr. Luke? That sounds creepy as fuck man, don’t call yourself that.”

“Do you want to sit on my lap and see what kinds of things pop up?” Luke winks playfully.

“Don’t. Don’t ever say that to me again.”

“What, you afraid of a little man to man action?” Luke wraps his arm around my shoulder and with his other hand squeezes my pec.

“This is all kinds of wrong, let’s drink, please? You’re creeping me out.”

We walk over to the gentlemen’s club that is in the back end of the building where Luke works and grab a seat at the bar. Several business professionals linger around the large brightly lit space in the middle of the day, like coming to this establishment is their job. There look to be a few business meetings happening along the walls in the booths and bigger tables. It’s almost something out of the 1950s, where you see Ad Men drinking and spending their evenings before going home to their homemaker wives.

I order a vodka martini and angle my seat towards Luke.

“My ex is a real bitch,” I begin. “She’s accused me of cheating on her.”

“Um, is she aware that one, she cheated on you, and two, that you two have been broken up for quite some damn time?”

I relay the interaction with Marie to Luke and once finished he whistles and shakes his head.

“Dude, I never liked her, she wasn’t the friendliest of ghosts.”

“I love how I learn after the fact that no one liked her,” I roll my eyes and run my thumb along the body of the glass, wiping away condensation.
