Chapter 20

Naomi

“You’re overthinking again,” Alexander said as he took my hand in his and brought it to his lips. How could I not overthink it? Here we were in his car, driving to his parents’ house for a cookout I wasn’t invited to, and he didn’t tell them that he was bringing me.

“I’m not,” I mumbled, lying straight through my teeth. “I’m just quiet.” I sighed as I pulled my hand from his, sliding my hands between my thighs. I was fucking freaking out.

“Really?” he teased. He was enjoying this. Look at that stupid grin on his face. Was it normal to bring someone you were sleeping with and you didn’t know the status of the relationship with to your family's house?

To him it was. To me it was fucking outrageous! Imagine me bringing him to meet Mia? Dad didn’t count since they worked together—and, well, Daddy didn’t really like him because I didn’t.

And yet here I was, totally head-over-heels for a man who got uncomfortable at the slightest mention of confessions even though it was just a joke. Maybe I should stop joking about wanting a more meaningful relationship with him, because all it did was pull him even further away from me.

How could I not mention a relationship when he did stuff like this? I looked down at the charm bracelet that was wrapped around my wrist comfortably. Ever since he put it there, I had not taken it off.

Who buys someone a Storm multi-diamond bracelet and has the audacity to call it a charm bracelet? Seth does. He had the audacity, and his explanation was that I came in like stormy weather; first I was a tornado, and then I eventually became hailstones, and now I was calm rain. Never sunny, just calm rain, which was his favorite weather.

I swooned and immediately took off my clothes because he’d charmed the pants off me. I was so weak when it came to Seth, and yet he had all his defenses up against me.

However, here we were, turning into a driveway with two more family cars parked in the large space. What a pretty exterior for a house. The red exposed brick house was so inviting. The green plants that had grown over the white walls with the Clematis flowers brought in such a warm aesthetic. They definitely know how to take care of their plants.

“Are you feeling okay?” he asked as he turned to face me, unbuckling my belt in the process.

“Yes.” I nodded, smiling, and he tilted his head to the side, his brown eyes staring deeply into my hazel-green eyes. I looked away for a second, feeling a bit overwhelmed by his intense gaze; had he always looked at me like that?

The stare told me if I said no, he would reverse instantly and take us back home. “Good,” he whispered as he pressed his lips against mine; not moving, just a simple, soft kiss. “I want you to have fun today.” He looked at me with hooded eyes, and I squirmed in my seat. He pressed another soft kiss on my lips, still looking into my eyes.

Why am I not closing my eyes?

“Okay, baby?” he said softly, and I nodded, unable to respond back. Was Alexander always this intense? “Words, Nao.” My cheeks immediately flushed when he called me by my nickname that he started calling me by when he was playfully calling out my name while we were bathing together.

“Yes Seth, I will have fun today.” I said, and he smiled as he pressed his lips on mine, licking my bottom lip, and as I opened my mouth, he pulled away and smiled coyly.

“Let's go in before they come get us.” His boyish grin proved he enjoyed teasing me. I always fell into his traps; they weren’t that great to the point that I always fell for them, but it was because of who set the traps. I fumble every time I’m with him.

He held my hand in his as he led us into the house. Fresh smells of baked goods filled the entire house, and instinctively, my stomach grumbled. Luckily the house was filled with noise. That would've been embarrassing.

Did he hear that?

“Uncle Alex!” A bunch of small voices ran toward us and jumped on Alex. I quickly separated myself from him, not wanting to come between them.

Every day, I learned of Alex’s different smiles and I loved each of them.

“Lexie, pick me up!” a smaller voice said, and I giggled as I noticed the girl spreading her arms out for Lexie. He picked her up, and I didn’t miss how his cheeks had suddenly turned pink.

“Lia, I’m Uncle Alex,” he said as he kissed her cheeks, and she giggled as she put her hands on his face.

“Lexie.” She giggled as she rubbed her nose against his. Of course he would be weak to that cute attack.

Someone tugged my dress. I looked down at the kids, and a soft gasp left my lips. They looked just like Alex. “Hi.” I immediately crouched down to their level as I looked at the boys. It felt like I was looking at a younger version of him.

“Hi.” One waved shyly while the other just gaped at me. I looked at Alex, wondering if this was their normal reaction to new people.

“The shy one is Ezra, and the one gaping is Ethan. They’re twins,” he explained as he ruffled their hair.

“I’m Naomi.” I extended my hand to the boys, and they both shook my hand. My smile grew as their soft hands held mine in a soft manner. I absolutely loved kids, and I couldn’t wait to have some of my own one day.

“Oh? You finally made it?” a deep feminine voice said, and I looked up at the woman. She looked really young.
