She’s watching it for the men.

Once we were done with our meal, she left to go take a shower, and I stayed cleaning up the kitchen. It became a routine with us that whoever cooked would end up cleaning the kitchen as well, something she’d learned from Mia, her father’s girlfriend.

Apparently it helped you stay responsible for your own shit. It made sense, and I thought it was a great lesson. If you do something, whether good or bad, you should be willing to clean up your mess in the process of it all.

I finished cleaning up the kitchen and made her tea before I switched off the lights and made my way upstairs to the bedroom. I placed the tea on her side of the bedside table and sat on the bed, patiently waiting for her to come out of the bathroom.

Scrolling through my phone, I found myself looking for a gift to give her. The butterfly diamond pendant caught my eye, and I smiled as I added it to my cart. This would look pretty on her. She finally emerged from the bathroom after ages, drying her hair.

A smile immediately grew on my face as I saw her approach me. She leaned down and pressed her lips against mine softly. “I hope I didn’t take long?” she asked, and her voice was becoming better already.

I like it better when it’s all hoarse.

“Nah.” I shook my head as I watched her take a sip of her tea. She winced, and I chuckled. Naomi hated drinking her tea at room temperature, but that was all on her since she didn’t want to come out of the bathroom.

“It’s cold,” she whined, and I smiled, shrugging.

“I switched off the lights downstairs,” I announced as I saw her head to the door. She immediately swiveled and walked back to the bed with her mug in hand.

“You’re mean,” she whispered as she climbed the bed and scooted closer to me.

“Get used to it.” I unlocked my phone and went back to the online store I was scrolling through earlier. I clicked on the pendant that had caught my eye and showed it to her. “Do you like it?”

Naomi pouted and looked at me, confused. Pursing her lips together, she studied the pendant before a stupid grin grew on her face. “Oh?” She giggled as she sat up and looked at me with her eyebrows raised. “Are you thinking of confessing to me?”

“Sure.” I rolled my eyes, and she laughed as she pressed her head on my shoulder.

“It would make sense; after all, you do depend on me, and I’m always here. Perhaps I should just move in?” She looked at me through her lashes, and I kept quiet. Why are her eyes so bright? Most importantly, how did I manage to get someone as gorgeous as her in my place, and when did I get so used to having her around?

Was I really dependent on her? She was always here, and I did enjoy spending time with her and having her in my space. Every room was now filled with her sweet scent, and she had some of her clothes packed in my closet.

The bathroom was filled with her toiletries. I even knew where she kept her pads. She was practically living here already. So why can’t I say yes?

“Relax, Seth. I was just playing.” She laughed awkwardly as she pulled herself away from me. I looked at her, dumbfounded. Did she think I found what she said uncomfortable?

The old Seth would have definitely told her she was out of her fucking mind, but I was actually considering it. Would it really be bad for her to move in? Other than her father asking where she was and who she was living with…

It wouldn’t be that bad, right?

“I know,” I said as I looked back at my phone. That isn’t what I wanted to say! I wanted to say yes, she should move in. It would be fun, but wouldn’t I just be feeding into her fantasies of us eventually being in a serious relationship as she had hinted?

Did I want to be in a relationship with her? I didn’t want to lose her, and I knew I wanted her around, but as for a relationship?

When did it become so complicated? “I’m looking for a gift to give my mother and sisters,” I said, and her eyes brightened again with interest.

“Oh? So which one of the three is the pendant for?” she asked as she scooted closer to me again, her soft body touched mine, and all I could think of was how different we were.

She was everything I wasn’t, and she was so good to me that I wanted her to give me all of her, but was I willing to give her all that I had?

No. I can’t. “Seth?” She pushed her face right into mine, and her big eyes searched mine for a second before she smiled and pulled away. “You still here?”

“Yeah,” I blinked, realizing my heart had stopped just from that brief action. I couldn’t give her all of me, and yet she affected every single bone in my body. “Help me look for a gift, please.” I said monotonously, and she laughed as she climbed onto my lap and pressed her head on my chest.

You shouldn’t do that, Naomi. Stop confusing me.

“I’d love to.”

Shit.
