He obviously knew Alejandro and Hugo, so who was he?

Dull dark brown eyes snapped back to me. "I don't believe I was speaking to you, boy."

Boy?

I stepped forward until I stood face to face with the man. I didn't know who he was, and I didn't care to know. No one spoke to me like that, especially not in my own home. "You are not speaking to anyone else unless you speak to me."

The man raised his hands from one moment to the next and backhanded me across the face. "I said I wasn't talking to you, boy."

I cried out at the pain and stumbled back. The side of my mouth throbbed. I wiped my hand across my mouth and then stared down at the bright red blood smeared across it. My eyes narrowed as I looked at the offending man.

"Hugo, whose house is this?" I asked without looking at him.

"Yours, sir."

"And who do you work for?"

"You, sir."

"Shoot him."

"Yes, sir." There was way too much joy in that voice.

A moment later a loud bang rang through the foray.

"You shot me! I can't believe you shot me!" the man cried out as he clutched at his injured leg and fell to the floor. "I'm going to kill you."

This guy was an idiot.

I pulled out my phone and dialed 911.

"Police, fire, or medical?" the 911 dispatcher asked.

"Please, please, you have to help me," I cried out in a frightened voice. "He broke into my house and he's threatening to kill me. I don't know why. I've never seen this man before in my life."

"Police are on the way, sir. Are you in a safe place?"

"My...My...My bodyguard shot him in the leg when he started beating me. He's alive, but..." I let out a heart wrenching sob. "You might want to send an ambulance."

"Is the suspect incapacitated?"

"He's bleeding all over my floor, but my bodyguard is here. He's watching him."

"Can you give me your name, sir?"

"Delancy Matisse III...No, wait. I just got married. My name is now Delancy Díaz. My grandfather is Delancy Matisse I. We're supposed to be meeting him for a charity event he's hosting, but now..." I let out another sob. "I don't know what to do."

"Everything is going to be okay, sir. The police are almost there. Just sit tight and stay away from the suspect."

"I need my husband," I tried to put as much anguish into my tone as possible. "I need Alejandro."

"Alejandro!" the man on the floor spat out. "You're married to that perverted bastard?"

"No, no!" I screamed. "Stay away from me! Don't touch me!"

I should get a Grammy for this shit.

I snapped my finger and pointed at the man's other leg. Hugo smirked and shook his head as if amused before putting another bullet in the man, this one in his uninjured leg.
