"Oh, my god!" I screamed even louder.

"Sir, sir," the operator said. "Are you okay?"

"He tried to kill me. He attacked me again."

"Are you hurt?"

"N-No. My bodyguard shot him in the other leg."

"Is the suspect alive?"

"Yes, but he's bleeding even more now." I glanced toward the open doorway when I heard sirens. "I can hear the police coming."

"Okay, sir, I'm going to ask you to get your bodyguard to put his gun down. I don't want the police to think he is the suspect."

"Oh, oh, I think the police are here now." Well, not quite yet, but I needed to make a couple of phone calls before they arrived.

"Very good, sir."

"Thank you. Thank you for your help. I don't know what I would have done if you hadn't been there."

"All part of the job, sir. You have a good day."

As soon as she hung up, I glanced at Hugo again. "Give me your phone."

He frowned, but handed it over.

I dialed an old friend of mine. "Hey, Cindy, this is Delancy. I have a juicy bit for you."

"Oh?"

"Some idiot just broke into my new house and tried to kill me. My bodyguard had to shoot him. Interested?"

"For real?" she asked almost breathlessly.

"For real."

"What's the angle?"

I smirked because this woman got me. "Newlywed waiting for his husband to get home so they can attend the charity event his grandfather is hosting. Stranger breaks in and attacks him, beating him, gets shot by the well-trained bodyguard."

"Oh, this is juicy."

"If you can get here before my very handsome husband, you can film the tearful reunion."

"I'm already on my way."

"Better hurry, I'm calling him next."

As soon as she hung up, I handed the phone back to Hugo and then called Alejandro on my cell phone. I didn't want a record of me calling my media contact to be on my phone.

"Querido, I'm on my way. I swear."

"You need to get here fast," I told him. "Some idiot—"

"Dante," Hugo inserted.

I glanced at the man on the floor. "Dante?"
