"Delancy says we're going to be the world's most romantic couple, working our way to sainthood through philanthropy."

"I'm sorry, what?"

Yeah, I was a little confused by it as well.

"Delancy wants to create a persona for me so that if anyone points a finger at me, no one will believe it. I'll be a loving husband with a thriving security business, and together Delancy and I will do charitable works that will make us golden in the eyes of the public."

"That sounds good, but remember not to go overboard. If you give too much away, people are going to start digging into your past. You want to be mysterious, but not too mysterious."

"I'll keep that in mind."

Jake chuckled as I knew he would.

"All right, Jake, I need to go. I have a few more things I need to do before Delancy and I head out."

"Sounds good, but hey, give me a call soon so we can set up a dinner or something. Jai has been bugging me to meet your new husband."

"I will."

"Okay, bye."

I hung up with Jake and then called for Hugo. When the man walked into my study, I asked him, "Any word on Martinez?"

"Delancy tracked him to the Marriot Hotel next to the JFK airport."

"And the moving trucks?" I asked.

"In the parking lot across the street from the hotel."

I tiled my head as I glanced up at Hugo. "Really?"

Hugo nodded. "I found that odd, too. I mean, I can see Martinez flying down to Columbia, but why would he have his belongings sitting around waiting with him? Why not send them on ahead? If they leave now they could potentially reach Columbia before he did, especially since he is just sitting in that hotel."

"Doesn't make sense to me either, unless he's just hiding out of the way until he can take over again."

"But that doesn't make sense either," Hugo said. "This seems like a mighty big ruse just to appease your grandfather. I mean, he packed up his entire house and moved out. Who does that?"

I snorted rudely. "Apparently, Martinez does."

I knew it would take Martinez and his men time to get out of the city and it had only been one day, but I didn't like the fact that he was so close. "The JFK airport sits on the line between Brooklyn and Queens, doesn't it?"

"I believe so."

“I want you to keep men on Martinez and the trucks, but I am also going to call Vinnie. Maybe he can get word to Angus King. I'm sure he would be interested in knowing a man like Martinez is staying so close to his territory. I doubt Martinez has permission."

I knew things were done a little differently here in New York City than they were at home. Major lines of transportation, like freeways and airports, were considered fair game. Still, it was always polite to call whoever's territory you were going through and give them a head's up.

In Columbia, the mafia owned everything, even the airports. If you were from a different family, you simply went to a different city to catch a plane. It was suicide to use one that didn't belong to you.

There was also the fact that, while those places were fair game, Martinez was staying in a hotel by the airport. That was a little different than driving to the airport to catch a flight.

"Martinez might be staying in a hotel to catch a flight tomorrow," Hugo pointed out.

"True, but I still won't feel comfortable until he's out of the city all together. I'll drop a bug in Vinnie's ear just in case."

"What would you like me to do now?"

"Make sure the men are keeping a close eye on Martinez. I wouldn't put it past him to try and slip away. The man isn't an idiot, as much as I wish he was. I'm pretty sure he expects me to be watching out for him. I would if I was in his situation."
