“It’s just a haircut,” she argued. “It won’t take me that long.” But the moment she saw me, she stopped in her tracks. “Oh dear.”

“See? I told you he needed help,” Rae snapped, kicking Duke’s leg out from underneath him. He fell to the ground in a heap, glaring up at his wife.

“That was completely unnecessary.”

“Says you. He almost proposed to a woman looking like that.”

“There’s nothing wrong with my hair!” I shouted over all of them, but they weren’t paying attention.

I was shoved down in a chair and a gown was tossed around me. Then I was tilted back and my hair was soaked. I tried to pay attention to what was going on around the house, but Jenna kept yanking my head to where she wanted it.

“You’re going to have to stay still,” she said as she washed my hair.

Once she was done, I was shoved upright and forced into the position she wanted. I normally enjoyed a haircut, but that was when I wasn’t being ordered around.

Suitcase after suitcase was tossed down the stairs. Red was yelling at Kavanaugh for standing in his way. Dash was running in and out of the house, loading up the truck, and Cash was ordering them all around as Lock checked things off on a list. It was insanity.

“There we go,” Jenna said after finishing up my neck. “So much better. I’m surprised you got her in the first place with all that hair.”

“Do his nostrils too,” Rae commanded.

“My what?”

“Oh yeah. He has a few stray hairs,” Jenna said, bending down low to see up my nose.

“I’ll have you know that I am the most groomed man around here!”

“It must have been the stress,” Duke said, staring at me with his arms crossed over his chest.

“Stress made my nose hairs grow?”

His eyebrows shot up as he shook his head. “You should have seen me with Rae. I swear to God; it was like I had to go at it with a weedwacker.”

I tore the gown from around my neck and tossed it on the ground. Shoving my fingers between my lips, I let out a loud whistle. “Alright! Everyone listen up!” The room went silent. “As much as I appreciate how much you are all…so involved in me winning back Wren, this has to stop. I can pack my own bag and get out there on my own. I’m sorry, but none of you will be coming with me to give commentary on my clothes, what I say, or what size my ring is,” I glared at Bree. “So, if you’ll all just…step aside…”

Cash looked at Edu and nodded. I didn’t know what was happening until Edu stalked right toward me and wrapped me in a hug. I frowned at Cash over his shoulder, wondering what was happening. But then Edu spun and got behind me, wrapping his arm around my neck. I gasped for air and Edu took advantage, putting me to sleep in an instant.

BROCK

I woke on the plane, looking out the window at the passing clouds. Fuck, we were already airborne.

“See? I told you this was the right thing to do,” Dash grinned, taking the seat across from me on the plane.

A glass was thunked down on my table as Lock passed, grumbling about how unorganized this trip was. I lifted the glass of scotch to my lips, grateful for the reprieve.

“Should you really be drinking?” he asked.

“I’m out of a job. I don’t think it matters.”

“Cash is gonna give you your job back,” he chuckled.

“Is he?”

“Come on. He got you the plane. He’s here. That has to mean something.”

Maybe it did, but until I heard the words, I wasn’t getting my hopes up. I swallowed the rest of the contents of the glass, watching as Edu took the seat across the aisle from me.
