“Whoa!” I grabbed her arm, stopping her from running off. “I already have facial cream.”

“You were almost out.”

She took off from the room, nearly running into Scottie as he entered. “Since you already got the fire going, I figured you would need some kindling.”

“Some what?”

“Condoms,” he snapped. “Keep up, man.”

I spun around as I was bumped into from behind. Edu raced past me, snatching my garment bag out of the closet. “Blue, Lock! His eyes are blue. You can’t pack red!”

He pulled out all my blue dress shirts, tucking them into the bag. Then he went back for ties.

“Alright, I got the barf bags,” Fox said breathlessly. “And I made sure there was a fresh supply of Funyuns on board.”

“I don’t like Funyuns!” I snapped.

“They’re for me. If you don’t want me to kill Bryce, it’s vital I have them.”

“Why are you even coming?”

He scoffed. “Uh…because she knows me the best of everyone.”

“She knows me the best.”

“Yeah, you keep thinking that. Meanwhile, I’m the only one who tried to teach her to throw knives. Where were you?”

I didn’t even know the answer to that. It was such a ridiculous question.

I spun as something was knocked off my nightstand and crashed to the ground. “That was my favorite lamp!” I yelled at Red. “What the fuck are you even doing here?”

“Helping to pack. I heard road trip and thought I’d come along. I really just want to get away from the kids,” he whispered. “Don’t tell Zoe.”

“No. Absolutely not!” Bree huffed, stomping into the room. “You need a haircut. There is no way you can walk up to her, profess your love, and expect her to say yes with that haircut.”

“This is the ring,” Red said, holding out the box.

She winced, sighing heavily. “It’s much smaller than I imagined, but it’ll have to do.”

“It’s my mother’s ring.”

“Then I feel sorry for her.” She snatched my hand and dragged me out of the room and down the staircase. “We’ll have to make this quick, but I think we can pull it off if…” She tapped her foot as she stared at her watch. “Where are they?”

“Where’s who?” I snapped. “Who are you waiting for?”

She rolled her eyes. “I can’t believe with all that’s on the line, they’re not here yet!”

“Who’s not here?” I yelled.

The front door banged open and Duke came stomping in, shaking his head in irritation. “You know, you can’t just drag me out of work because a guy needs a haircut!”

“This is important,” Rae snapped. “When was the last time you tried to win me over.”

“As I recall, I took a bullet for you.”

“Well, he can’t take a bullet for Wren. She’s not even here!”

An older woman pushed them aside and stepped through the chaos. I recognized Jenna the moment I saw her face. She was Duke’s…well, she was related to him.
