He yanked the door open and stormed into Cash’s office. “Cash, we need a plane.”

“No, we don’t,” I said, storming into the office behind Dash.

“For what?”

“We’re going to get Wren back.”

“We’re not. I was only going to watch her. No kidnapping.”

“A little kidnapping,” Dash shrugged. “But only if necessary.”

Cash’s face twisted in a shrug. “Okay.”

“And Scottie,” Dash continued. “I can’t fly the plane.”

“Better get the rest of the team too.”

“And Fox. I don’t want him to feel left out.”

I watched them discussing this as if I wasn’t right here. Then my brain kicked back on. “You fired me!” I shouted at Cash. “Now you’re letting me take your plane to kidnap the woman I kidnapped the first time?”

“You walked away,” he pointed out.

“Because I kidnapped a woman like a lunatic!” I shouted, losing my fucking mind.

“And now that you’ve come to your senses and decided to get her back, here are the keys to the plane,” he said, tossing his keys across the desk. “Those are actually just the keys to the building, but it’s a gesture.”

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. My head was about to explode as I stared at my boss—ex-boss. “You—But I—and he—this is insane!”

Cash leaned back in his seat, grinning at me. “You followed your instincts. Yes, you were wrong, but you still uncovered another plot. It could have turned out differently. And while you were compromised because you were fucking the client, I commend you for your tenacity.”

“Cash,” I said, taking a deep breath. “You fired me. I broke the rules. I ignored you. Fox and I kidnapped a woman. You could have a major lawsuit slapped against you right now, all because of me!”

“Do you love this woman?” he asked.

“What?”

“Do you love this woman,” he repeated slowly.

“I—”

“It’s not a difficult question. Either you would do anything in this world for her, or you’d walk away. Which is it?”

I thought of her lying beside me in bed, the feel of her skin under my fingers, and her attitude when she didn’t get her way. She was everything that I shouldn’t want, and yet, I craved her more than anything else in this world. I wasn’t sure if that was love, but she wasn’t someone I could get out of my head anytime soon.

“I don’t know, Cash. But I need to do this for my own sanity. I need to see that she’s happy with this guy. And if she’s not, I…” I swallowed hard. I couldn’t even begin to admit to myself the ache that sat squarely in my chest at the thought of her walking down that aisle and marrying a man she didn’t love, all for money.

“Then it’s time to get her back. Fuel up the plane. We’re going on a road trip. In the skies.” He grinned at me. “This is gonna be good.”

“You’re not bringing Sally 2, are you?”

I marched out of the office, ready to win back Wren, even if I failed miserably. I suddenly felt empowered, like I could walk up to her, kiss the living daylights out of her, and she would fall into my arms. No, I didn’t have anything to offer her. I couldn’t give her anything but my heart. That had to count for something.

“You’ve got this,” Dash said, walking quickly behind me.

“Once you’re on that plane, we’ll strategize,” Cash added.

Lock was just coming through the front door when he saw me. “What are you doing here?”
