“It really is,” he nodded.

“Okay, now you’re beginning to sound like Fox.”

“Well, he rubs off on all of us.”

“Seriously, I’m doing this on my own.”

He snapped his fingers and walked past me. “We’re gonna need a plane.”

I frowned, not understanding what he was saying, but then it hit me and I ran after him. “We are not taking Cash’s plane!”

“Of course, we’ll need Scottie. Or Max,” he continued, walking down the stairs and completely ignoring me.

I raced after him, nearly tripping over my own feet. “No, we’re not bringing Max. He’s fucking insane.”

“Well, Scottie vomits everywhere.”

“And Cash will have another cleaning bill!” I shouted. “We’re not doing this! I’m driving!”

“Are you kidding?” he chuckled, not even bothering to face me as he walked out the front door. “That will take forever. You can’t get there fast enough to stop the insanity of whatever is really going on here. No, you need to go big or go home.”

“I’m not—” I rushed around him and stood in his path, forcing him to listen to me. “We’re not doing this. I wasn’t planning on confronting her anyway. I was only going to watch her.”

That got his attention. He finally looked at me and frowned. “Watch her? That’s it?”

“I…I need to make sure she’s happy.”

“And you’re going to watch her.”

“Yes!”

“So…you got fired over this woman, and your big plan is to watch her.”

“It’s not a difficult concept,” I bristled. “I want to make sure this is the life she wants.”

He nodded slowly, a smile creeping over his lips. “And kidnap her again if it’s not.”

“No, no kidnapping.”

He grinned at me, brushing the side of his nose with his forefinger. “I gotcha.”

He stepped around me and yanked open the door to his truck.

“No—”

But he slammed the door in my face. I rushed around to the passenger side and got in. “Dash, I’m serious. There’s no kidnapping. There’s no doing anything!”

“Look, I get it. Plausible deniability and all that. It’s cool, man.”

He hit the gas and I fell back in my seat as he tore down the road toward OPS.

“No! You’re being Fox right now! There is no plausible deniability or kidnapping or taking a plane! We’re not going anywhere. I was fired, but you still have a job!”

He slammed on the brakes, sending me into the dashboard. “I haven’t met the woman, but you’re going crazy over her. Miranda didn’t do it for you and neither did Lee, but this other woman does. Probably because you use the same facial creams. Now, I’m not saying your bathroom will be big enough for her. In fact, I’m not sure how you’ll fit all the bathroom products you have in the ensuite. Frankly, I’m not sure how you get all of your stuff in there, but we can figure that out after we get her back.”

He shoved the door open and walked out. I sat there stumped for a moment, then rushed out to follow him. I should just leave. If I got in my truck right now and took off down the road, there would be no point in him taking Cash’s plane.

“Betty was on the box!” I shouted as a last-ditch effort. “Cash will go insane and kill someone. Is that what you want?”
