“I can fire him if I want. He broke the rules. He put the company in danger, along with another employee and a client.”

“It’s not his fault. He’s in love!”

“I’m not in love,” I argued. I would never admit to being in love with a woman who wanted nothing to do with me.

“He’s completely in love, and if you fire him, he’ll lose all faith in himself. So he broke the rules. Who hasn’t?”

Cash scoffed. “Oh, I had no idea it was that simple. Fox broke the rules. FNG broke the rules. Everyone breaks the rules!” he shouted, throwing up his hands. “It’s alright. This is how we do business now. Everyone does whatever the hell they want and no one answers for it!”

“It’s okay, Eva. I deserve this,” I said, trying to calm her down.

“It’s not alright. Look at what he did for me!”

“You were actually in danger. It turns out, Wren wasn’t really in trouble. That’s on me.”

“But—”

The doors flew open and Juliette stormed into the office, glaring at Cash. “You can’t fire him. I did it. It was my plan for him to take Wren and run.”

Cash rolled his eyes. “Yeah, you were the mastermind.”

“Hey, who do you think drugged Lock and Scottie?”

“You drugged your own husband?”

He already knew she did, so why was he acting like this was new information? Not that it mattered. I didn’t need anyone else fighting my battles for me. “Juliette, it’s fine. This is my mess.”

“No, you can’t leave. If you do, Lock will quit too.”

“Juliette,” I started, but Lock burst into the room, grabbing Juliette by the arm and spinning her around.

“What are you doing?”

“Telling Cash exactly what happened out there,” Juliette retorted. “How I was the mastermind of this whole thing. And if he fires Brock, you’re quitting.”

“I am?” Juliette glared at him. “Um…I mean…I am. Yes, that’s right. I will quit if you fire Brock.”

A bark of laughter left Cash’s lips, but I knew he wasn’t giving in this time.

“Lock, it’s really not necessary. You told me to walk away. This is my mess.”

“Agreed,” Lock said.

“Okay, well…you could have at least pretended to be on my side,” I muttered.

“I don’t want you gone either, but I told you it would fucking happen.”

“Yeah, you also practically dared me to fuck her.”

Juliette spun around and gasped. “Jerrod!”

“What? No! I—it was a bet!”

“Boss!” Scottie stormed into the room. “You should fire this man.”

“Thanks,” I nodded. “Very helpful.”

He frowned. “Did I not do that right?” he whispered to Lock.
