“What else do you have?”

“Nothing yet. I’m still trying to figure out how they hacked in.”

“So, the purpose was solely to set off the alarm at that time.”

“That’s what it’s looking like.”

I paced the room, trying to figure out what this meant. “Who would want to stop this guy from breaking in?”

“I would say the father, but there’s no way he knows anything about hacking.”

“No, but he has the resources to pay someone a lot of money to make it happen.” I thought about it for a minute. “But why would he pay someone that much money to hack the code and set off the alarm when he already knew the guy would be caught?”

“Backup,” Dash suggested.

“We need to figure out how he slipped the first alarm. There’s no way Ben Crosby was able to get him past.”

“Wait, that’s it,” I said, my brain putting the pieces together. “Ben couldn’t have gotten him past the first alarm, so whoever set off the alarm had to have known that this guy was sneaking onto the property. You need to check the code again.”

“The code hasn’t been messed with other than the one time.”

“Then the alarm had to have been turned off. It would only take a flicker in the system for the guy to slip past.”

“I guess it’s possible, but…”

“But what?”

“Nothing,” he grumbled.

“You’re pissed because you didn’t think of it,” I surmised.

“Whatever. I’ll get back to you.”

He hung up on me before I got to ask any more questions, but it didn’t matter. I had to fix things with Fox before he went into a serious state of depression. I walked over to his bag and opened it, knowing what I would find inside. Grinning, I pulled out the five bags of Funyuns and made my way down the hall.

Peeking in room after room, it didn’t take me long to find him. He was sitting on a bed, staring at the ground. I knocked on the door and made my way in.

“Fox, I got something for you.”

He didn’t bother to look up.

I tossed one of the bags of Funyuns at him. It fell with a crinkle on the bed beside him, drawing his attention.

“You got this out of my bag,” he grumbled, snatching it off the bed.

“Right, but I knew you needed it. That counts for something, doesn’t it?”

Tearing it open, he shoved some Funyuns in his mouth and glared at me. “This doesn’t mean we’re good.”

“Fox,” I sighed, “It’s weird that you want to be my penis’s wingman.”

“I was just looking out for the guy.”

“And I appreciate the thought behind it, but you gotta leave my dick alone.”

He shot me a shy look and ate some more Funyuns. “I guess I can try.”

“So, we’re good?”
