He thought about it, then opened his mouth.

“I’m not watching a musical with you.”

WREN

I was bored, horny, and irrationally angry about being cooped up in this nice house. I found myself cursing all the luxurious aspects that weren’t at the motel. Like the bath. It was a beautiful garden tub that overlooked the lake and came with every type of bubble bath or bath salts I could want.

But my anger toward Brock tainted the gifts he made sure I had. Was he trying to bribe me with luxury items? It would have worked any other time, so why was I so angry about it now?

“Oh, sweetums?” Fox called out, entering my room without bothering to knock.

I shot him my best irritated look, which he promptly ignored. “What are you doing in here?”

“I came to find out what you’re doing. You can’t sit up here all day and wallow.”

“Yes, I can.”

“No, you really can’t. You’ll get bored. And boredom is the worst kind of torture.”

“What do you know about torture?” I muttered, wishing he would just leave me alone.

“What would you like to know? Medieval torture? They had some great ideas. A little sadistic, even for my tastes, but really brilliant. The Pear of Anguish. The Iron Maiden…all very good choices. Then there was The Rack or The Thumbscrew?—”

“Fox!” I shouted in horror. “Why do you know these things?”

He shot me a wide grin. “It’s what I do.”

“You…you torture people?”

He nodded excitedly. “Yes, but only bad people. You have nothing to worry about.”

“Really? That’s not what you led me to believe at the motel.”

“Well, in all fairness, you were being mean to my friend. I couldn’t allow that to go unanswered.”

“You could have spoken to me like a normal person instead of threatening me.”

“But then you wouldn’t have been scared, which would totally defeat the purpose of my mission. And it worked.”

Huffing, I stood and walked around my room, trying to decide what to do next. I didn’t want to be here, and I didn’t want to hang out with Fox. What I needed was a distraction—something to take my mind off what Brock did to me earlier. I didn’t want to think about how much I wanted him.

What happens when this is over is up to you. And I won’t touch you again until you’ve decided.

Until I’ve decided. Decided what exactly?

“You’re gonna wear a hole in that floor,” Fox pointed out. “Is something on your mind?”

“What gave me away?” I snapped.

“Well, first of all, you’re chewing your nails. That’s a classic sign of nervousness or anxiousness. A little known fact, most people don’t realize that there’s a difference between excitement and anxiety.”

“What are you talking about?” I practically shouted.

“Well, if you’re excited about something, it’s a feeling of happiness. However, most of the time, people say they’re anxious. But anxiety is a sign of impending doom. Therefore, when they say they’re anxious about something, what they really mean is they’re excited.”

I stopped and stared at him. “Well, thank you for the English lesson.”
