Me: Sorry, it doesn't ring a bell. Which one?

Sissy face: The one dad introduced me to. The one I said was cute. I've changed my mind. He's not cute. He's annoying.

Me: Oh, the one who keeps calling you all the time?

Sissy face: Yes, him. He's here and staring at me from the bar. He tried to buy me a drink, and I declined. He seemed pissed off, and now he is giving me the creeps.

Me: At the risk of sounding like your uncool sister, maybe it's time to leave? Go home.

Sissy face: No, it's Lisa's birthday, and we haven't done the cake and shit yet. It's fine. I can manage, but oh God, he really is creeping me out.

My first instinct was to change and head down to the bar to provide extra protection. Protection that I myself apparently needed because somebody was trying to shoot at me, so that wasn't going to work.

But wait… you have six available very large men at your disposal. Hell, technically, tonight, you have nine. There are two more on the elevator downstairs and one in the lobby. You could roll deep.

I stared at my phone again. It would be nothing. I could just go get her.

Except, there's no way Atticus lets you go. And you are likely overreacting.

Was I overreacting though?

Me: No joke, Morgan, are you scared?

Sissy Face: He's come to the table and now he's standing right next to me. I'm really, really uncomfortable.

Well fuck. I bounced off the bed as I typed.

Me: Sit tight, we're coming to get you.

I then marched toward the study in my camisole and short-shorts. I had already taken off my bra, and my shorts look more like boy-cut panties than actual workout shorts, and I could imagine the face that Atticus would make.

I paused briefly to go back and grab sweats to throw on over them, sliding a hoodie over my hair, which just made it look like a rat's nest, but I would fix that later.

I almost knocked on the study door like I didn't live there. But instead, I opened it, poking my head in, and six heads whipped around in my direction. "Gentlemen, sorry to interrupt."

Atticus's face lit up like a Christmas tree. It wasn't so much his smile, which he did give, the slow one that sort of snuck out like a thief in the night and quickly turned into something that looked like he was thinking about the last time he licked me, which was this morning. In the car. On the way to work.

Lance was up in a second, and I was shocked and happy to see him. "I thought you said that something came up,” I said as I walked over to him.

"Yes, I got pulled into something, but I'm here." He gave me a tight squeeze, lifting me off my feet, and I could hear the growl coming from Atticus.

When Lance released me, I looked around his arm to see Micah keeping Atticus in his seat.

My brother-in-law winked at me. All the other guys stood and gave me brief hugs, which again made Atticus growl. When I gave Micah a tight hug and he kissed me on top of my head, Atticus was less growly, but he muttered under his breath, "Do you have to touch her?"

Micah just chuckled. And then when I reached my husband, he dragged me onto his lap. "Ah, that's better."

"Atticus, baby, I can't sit on your lap while you guys are having… I don't know, what is this? A boys' meeting?"

"I'm just getting an update on everything."

"I would argue about how come I wasn't called in for an update as well, but we have bigger fish to fry right now."

My favorite smile disappeared. "What do you mean?" he asked gruffly.

"It's Morgan. She texted me. Remember that guy she was talking about the other day when you brought me home?"

Atticus's brow furrowed as he tried to process the information. "What guy? She didn't mention a guy."
