She grinned at me. "Okay… But aren't you the majority shareholder now? Like, you're the big lady boss."

I glanced around, smiling at my people. They all returned shy smiles but kept on moving. Matter of fact, the activity in the bullpen, where most of the cubicles were located, was subdued. Everybody was head down and working on something, kind of like when you knew the big boss was in town and everyone made it a point to look busy because they didn't want to be the one who was slacking off, gossiping about the latest royal scandal or which celebrity was caught shagging whom.

I glanced around again. Everyone was tapping away frantically at their keyboards. This was not my team. While we worked hard and got our shit done, this tenseness wasn’t the norm. What had happened to my people?

Macy could feel my unease. "Oh, don't be mad at them. They just don't know how to act. I mean, there's been a huge coup. And then everyone finds out that you married him. Because I mean, while I knew that you thought the man was hot, I didn't think you were going to marry him, and I’m closer to you than most of them are. And then you got shot, and now you're back, and Atticus was very clear that we were to treat you with the respect that you deserve, so it's… weird."

I stared at her. "Atticus spoke to you guys?"

"Yeah. He said that when you came back, we were supposed to treat you with utmost respect. No bullshit, because you have the company in your hands."

I scowled. "I am going to kill that man."

But as it turned out, I was going to have to wait to kill my husband. He was in back-to-back meetings all day.

I was happy to find out that he had a new assistant, Andrew. I was thrilled to learn Leah was gone, but Andrew was quite the stickler about my husband’s schedule. When he saw me, his eyes went wide and he stood up immediately. "Mrs. Price."

"No, don't call me that. Call me Gwen."

He frowned. "Um, yes, Mrs. Price, Gwen. I shall try. Although, Mr. Price has indicated that you should only be called Mrs. Price."

"Well, it's me and my name, so shouldn't the way I like to be referred to take precedence?"

He rocked back and forth on his feet. "Yes, sure. Gwen."

"Do you know where my husband is?"

"Actually, he's off site at a meeting. But he did say if you ever came by or needed to see him I was to make room for you. We have an opening at about four thirty if you'd like to have that slot. He has a call scheduled at a quarter to five, sales projections for an app manufacturer, but I could squeeze you in right before that."

"Four thirty? It's ten o'clock. That's all he's got?"

"Yes, ma’am. That's all he's got right now."

Damn. "Fine. I guess I will take four thirty."

By the time lunch rolled around, I was in need of a drink.

I wasn't allowed to do anything. Nothing at all. My team had been taken over by a group of Stepford Wives.

Jack was a little too helpful. And I couldn't get a hold of Micah. So I ended up calling my sister and Lance for lunch at Bryant Park Grill. Maybe Lance had an idea what the fuck was going on in the office. Although, he was supposed to be in London, wasn't he?

Morgan got there first. She waved when she saw me. "You look good. Even better than when I saw you a couple of days ago. A little respite at home, and probably some sexing-up from your man, has got you looking good."

I frowned. "Um, respite, yes. No sexing-up from the man yet."

Morgan lifted her brows. "You mean the very same man who usually looks like he wants to eat you? Say it isn't so."

I rolled my eyes. "We're not going to talk about it. Where's Lance?"

Morgan was in the midst of shrugging right as Lance walked through the door.

"I was going to say I hope he doesn't come. But there he is, just because you called," she muttered.

"Oh my God, can you two not bicker today? I just… I need some normalcy."

My sister just shrugged. "Lance and I bickering is normalcy."

She had a solid point there.
