“Let me start over.” I took a deep breath. “I asked someone on a date for tomorrow night, and I’d like to talk to the two of you about it.”

There was a pregnant pause before Milo spoke. “Who are you going out with?”

“First, I’d like to know if the two of you are comfortable with me dating anyone. Mom was?—”

“Wouldn’t want you not living your life to the fullest.” Tru’s brows rose to her hairline. “I just want you to be happy, and whoever this is, they must be special, because you never even thought about dating anyone else.”

“They are, I…” I looked over at Milo, who was staring at me expectantly, waiting for the name of who I was going out with. “I invited Finch out to dinner tomorrow night.”

The silence lasted a little longer, and then suddenly Milo jumped out of his chair, arms raised and wooted loudly.

“Yes, yes, yes!”

Tru giggled but sobered quickly. “I didn’t know you were bisexual, Dad.”

“I didn’t either, Tru, and honestly, I don’t know what I am. Finch just feels right, here.” I pressed my hand on my chest.

She smiled softly. “I’m real happy for you. I like Finch a lot.”

“He’s the best!” Milo was still standing, his grin a mile wide.

“Thank you both. You are the best kids a dad could ask for.”

Tru reached over and playfully smacked my hand. “Don’t get mooshy.”

“Fine. I was going to see if Paula could watch you guys tomorrow night.”

“I can watch Milo, Dad.”

“Uh, no, you can’t, Tru-bug. You’re thirteen, and if there’s an emergency with Milo, having an adult would be best.”

“Fine, but if Paula can’t, then what?”

“Let me figure that out.”

Sure enough Paula ended up informing me she wasn’t going to be home, and I realized I had to cancel my date.

Once the kids were in tucked in, I sat on my bed and called Finch.

CHAPTER TWENTY

Finch

I was just finishing typing up a file for one of my patients when my phone started vibrating in my pocket.

Easton’s name appeared, and joy bubbled in my chest.

“Hello.”

“Hey, Finch.”

“Uh-oh, there’s a sound of dejection in your voice.”

He sighed. “I had a plan to ask Tru’s friend’s mom to watch Milo and Tru tomorrow night while we went on our date, but she’s busy so I have to cancel. I feel awful.”

I turned at the sound of whooshing glass doors to find the answer to the issue.

“Actually, I have someone who I trust completely, has medical experience with Milo, and happens to be standing in front of me offering her services.”
